    The Vacation

Still working on getting the frame repaired and ready for paint. Used some steel wool and a hanger to clean out the seat tube and the fork. It was crazy how much rust came out. Still need to get the wedge bolt out of the fork. Then I got the headbadge off. This one has studs. Normally you can...

    TTreacherous

Fantastic, the wheels really changed the look!

    One-Eyed Sailor's Fleet!

I don’t have one, but I have come across them. I’ll keep an eye out for you.

    Nirve cannibal

I have thought about a 29er front wheel. I have one somewhere.

I might also cut the bottom bracket out and move it forward and up. These bikes aren’t as big as they look.

    Nirve cannibal

Without buying new forks this is as high as the front can go. A previous owner cut the forks quite a bit. It might also just be a pedal scraper.

    Nirve cannibal

Picked this one up for cheap. It was just the frame, fork, and few other parts. I stuck some wheels on it to get it rolling. It’s a little rough and someone cut the fork legs down. I’m not really into the chopper look, so I probably would have done the same thing. I’ll probably put some 5 1/2”...

Thanks! Glad to see someone else in SLC. If you’re ever looking for parts let me know.

    One-Eyed Sailor's Fleet!

Looks like you are in Utah too? I came close to buying that king size. It was a good price, but I already have too many. Cool to see that you got it.

    The Vacation

Me too. It’s fun to give something life again. I have an idea for the paint that I have never tried before. Should be fun to see if it turns out.

    The Vacation

Got to work on the repairs today. All of the evidence points to a major crash at some point: weld on the down tube, non original front wheel, and when I stripped the paint off the forks they were originally red and the frame was green. Starting point. Ground down the weld to see what I was...

    The Vacation

Trying more parts to see what sticks. First up is an older orange velo saddle. Second, are some alloy mustache bars. I’m like those so far. I’m not totally set on the wheels yet. 26x1 3/8 wheels somehow feel like the pocket protector of wheels. They just seem a little dorky. How do you like them?

@Captain Awesome you must have comment while I was writing the next post!

    The Vacation

A few years back I accidentally ordered some 26x1 3/8 tires, and then about a year ago I bought some 26x1 3/8 because I didn’t look at the box close enough. I recently picked up a set of the same size wheels, so I figured it was time to use them and this time on purpose. Working on getting the...

    The Vacation

Sometimes when you get back from vacation you have to work on getting skinny. I was on a short trip through western Colorado this past weekend, and picked up this cheap schwinn in Montrose. I believe it is a 1948 dx. It has mostly mismatched parts and a fair amount of damage. There’s a pretty...

    Nothing fits me

There are other bigger bikes out there. This 1935ish Iver Johnson ballooner is the tall frame and is significantly larger than a standard vintage bike. I’m 6’ 2” and all legs and arms. It’s the only balloon tire bike that is close to a good fit. Unfortunately, not a common bike and I just got...

    Salt Flat cycle truck

Throwing a few parts at this bike to see what sticks. I flipped the bars right side up. When I had the grip off I found out that they Torrington half moon bars. I also got the tank plate on there. I need to do some repair work where the basket braces mount. They are bent in a bunch of different...

    Salt Flat cycle truck

Picked up this Electra today for $20 for the three speed nexus for the cycle truck. It’s kind of funny because this is the third of this exact same Electra that I have bought in the past year to pull parts off of.
