    Jude's finds

Uh oh….. finally got a hot rod… I’ve been looking for an aluminum SL bike at a bargain price for some time. This guy needs a good cleaning and maybe a lube, but boy…. This thing is tight n light! I realize this guy is still a bit dated, but compared to the lead-sleds I ride, this thing will...

    Peugeot pounder

Here she is done; 10 mile ride today. True to what @us56456712 predicted, one of the derailleur pulleys has 2 broken teeth! I’ve put on a final tune, shined and will probably sell her with a warning on the derailleur.

The front…. In theory it could work. Like the video showed…. The thread pitch on my attachment hardware doesn’t match up. I tried to retap with a set I had here. I can get about 2 full turns and it locks up…. I don’t want to strip it out. So, gonna have to think on the front brake.

I got the rear brake mocked up pretty solid. I was a little surprised…. The factory fender mount hole wasn’t on center! But…. I think it’ll work ok:

So…. Riding the fence here on the brake plan. I want to do more research. I really love the OJ plan… not sure I have the skills to pull it off. I was able to get a caliper out at Bruce’s…. Im thinking maybe do a caliper on one side, v brake on the other. We’ll see

    TRADITIONAL Jumpy

Thanks OJ: I’m going to try the caliper hack. I can’t weld. (At least at this point in my life!) Is there a bolt on cantilever brake kit or process for getting the bosses mounted? Im sure I could find a local welding shop and bring them parts… not sure if there is anything special to do or...

He’s a friend of mine in the Syracuse Classic Bikes club …. He has at least 500 bikes at any given time (in 2 barns) and a 20’ x 20’ building with every square inch packed with vintage bike parts. He does a few big sales a year…. He’s got one this weekend and I’m headed over.

Got the wheels scrubbed and tires on. -at least temporarily. Brakes are going to be an interesting fit!!! Headed out to 500 bike Bruce’s this weekend with this guy to shop for parts and see what I can make work.

Huge basket fan…. My last 2 competition builds here had baskets. Last summer’s build I did the Raleigh, Quechua had the rear baskets, and my winter build (FYA) was full on crazy basket mode with baskets front and rear. Looking forward to seeing your build!

    TRADITIONAL DILEMMA

the Higgins has WAY more character than the Murray. -and if you build the Higgins, you don’t necessarily need to give up on the klunker idea. I’ve seen a number of super cool step through klunkers on here.

Thanks Matti! 100% I used to spend a fair amount of miles off road when I lived in Florida. (Alafia River State Park). I ran about the same pressures you do.

This… Is amazing! It’s just a paper grocery bag? I wouldn’t think it would have the rigidity for this?

Did some disassembly today of the parts bike: Everything went smooth. I hit everything with WD-40 yesterday, so everything came right apart. It does look like all the BB components from the Murray will fit no problem into this thing. 500 bike Bruce is having a sale next week, so I’ll go out...
