Thanks! -I was thinking the 2.4”, but then I thought about the air pressures I typically run and impact on tire size. I do most of my riding on pavement, so usually while in use, the air pressures will be up. I also didn’t want to have to engineer a special brake set up. I was also cautious...

-I got the 2.25 Rock Hawk for $50 as originally recommended. I was thinking you would tell me to push my luck with some meats! As I know most MTB, klunkers in particular run low air pressure, I do prefer running on the high side, so, I’d rather pump up the thinner tires than run lower pressure...

Thanks! I need @OddJob to get me a tire size recommendation! 2.4”? 2.5”?

Easy-peasy thus far I dig the geometry….. it looks like it’s stretched!

So….. starting the mock-up. I was shocked actually, at how the 26 x 1.75 tires filled up the fork and rear stays. I think a 2.5” tire may be a tight fit!

Thanks for all your input here @Wildcat ! I dig the drums, but I can’t build wheels and they are pricey to buy complete. I haven’t measured my stays yet…. I will mock up and measure sometime this weekend and see what I get. I did research that rear hub as well, and it does match what...

Hey OJ! I can find me some big crazy tires…. If I put them on, how can I get the thing to stop? I’d like to scab the wheels off the Murray in the pic above. Will a regular set of calipers fit around something like this...

Sounds like an old Harley….. I wouldn’t have it any other way! :cool2:

Thanks! Yeah… I LOVE the frame, but those rear drops do have me concerned. I’ve been eyeing parts in my inventory for this bike for several months and as I have a lot of rear wheels and gear options, I think this is the easiest play. The rear hub and thumb shifter is a Shimano 3S, which I...

And I got these bars off of 500 bike Bruce over the winter…. I was going to put them on FYA, but went with a rustier set for that bike as I thought it’d work better. Should work good on the klunker

I got me this nice brown brooks saddle I scored off of Craigslist for cheap a few years ago…. I think this should work ok.

And here is my donor bike. I’d mainly like to salvage the wheels. (rear in particular for the 3 speed) If I can use the BB components, crank and maybe chainring…. That’d be a bonus for the budget. Any input or recommendations, let me know!

So….. here we go! I’m looking to build a klunker out of an old straight bar frame. The build is a little outside my usual as I build a lot of skinny tire bikes. Also, I’ll be ditching my traditional patina salvage and putting some sharp red, white and blue paint on this guy. As I built my...

Definitely love your selection! Can’t wait to follow your build! -the brakes… unfortunately everything on this bike needs special tools or ‘replaced stem-to-stern’
