    Non-Traditional 3 Speed Fat Bike

I've thought about this as well...subscribing for future posts.

    First build: "Church Rat"

Another small update: Yesterday I modified what I think is a flashlight mount, I turned it into a bottle holder for that little glass bottle I found. I had a hard time deciding where to put it, but this is what I've come up with for the time being. I bent and reshaped the tabs on the...

Nos 26x2.125 Carlisle Jet Flyte tires

http://ratrodbikes.com/forum/index.php?threads/carlisle-jet-flyte-tires-slicks.41142/ I googled the name and it comes back to a few different garden cart/utility cart listings.

I wanted to do just that, but it was actually pretty low, even for my son. This won't be big enough for an adult to fit in, but it would be perfect for my son, he's 5. It would also be perfect for a couple cases of beer! Hah

So I found a thing on the side of the road today Then I tipped it over and it started to look like something So I went into the garage and got the seat from a riding lawnmower I scrapped a while ago Are you picking up what I'm laying down? So after making some careful cuts, drilling...

    First build: "Church Rat"

Late last night I finally got around to trying a new rear tire on the bike. I stepped up from the skinny 26x1.75 to a chubbier 26x2.125 and I'm really digging the look. The added sidewall height makes the ride a bit cushier, too. I also rotated the rear fender a bit more forwards so the...

It doesn't seem as though I'll have time to work on this build much this summer, maybe I'll have fewer distractions in the fall... However, I threw some grease at the bearings, couple drops of oil on an old chain, and I've just been riding this thing as-is. So I guess the build is done for now...

    Help with disc brakes

What kind of brake is it? The Avid BB7's on my mountain bike have adjustment wheels, one for each pad, that let you tune them.

    Bendix hub

I have definitively ID'd mine as 3/8-24...started designing linkage parts for it, too :)

    Bendix hub

That's interesting about the threads. I don't know jack squat about Bendix company history (or anything vintage bicycle-related really, I'm still very much a newbie), but I wonder if at any point parts were made under the Bendix name at other factories? Or maybe with different thread forms...

Eh, I'm a machinist. Challenge accepted. ;) In all seriousness, thank you for all the information! I'm willing to bet I'll be bugging you once or twice throughout this process - you've been warned. As far as I can tell the axle is straight, and the threads are actually in very good shape. Once...

    Second build: No name yet

Here's how I received the frame. It had been painted over at least twice, the black top coat seemed to be house paint. I was able to scrape and flake most of it off, the silver underneath put up more of a fight. Once I got through the silver I found that the original red had been heavily sanded...

Thank you for all of that! I missed the part that describes the "plunger" and "shifting rod in the axle". I couldn't see how there was anything on the hub that could cause it to change speeds, I never considered the little screw in the axle! I think I'm going to try my hand at building some...

    Second build: No name yet

Small update: I don't think I'll be using the Raleigh chainring afterall...I can't get the crank arm off! The more I look at it though, the more I think it's not right for this frame anyway. Maybe I'll like the Schwinn ring more once I clean it up? I have a few other options, too. I also tested...
