    Steering Tube Obstruction

22.2mm and 7/8'' quill stems are designated same size for 1'' steering tubes. The fork posted is made for the smaller 21.1mm stems/extenders and I want it to remain that way. Tools I use for 22.2mm/ 7/8'' work. The drill bit's equivalent to 55/64'' for a 22.2 reamer. The bit is too large for...

    Steering Tube Obstruction

Tried another method. Won't budge after being split in two all the way througho_O Beat the snot out of it from both directions. Soft steel. Still can't see evidence of brazing. There are two small dimples in the steering tube. Drilled to see if it was anything. Back to the original plan...

    Hellion

Crumb fan here. Stared at the Janis Joplin Cheap Thrills cover endlessly as a kid. Putting in the work to make it happen:thumbsup: Appealing shape. Scale looks right. How's tank clearance? I can't even have a console shifter without hitting my knees on any sized frame.

    Lowco Liner (aka Sunday Best)

Hey Doc, I polish rims often. You could go from 220/320 to even 600 wet and then to 1000. For an ideal finish you need to remove all the deep scratches early at 220. Smoooth stuff. I love single piece cranks, loathe bearing retainers though. Sealed bearings were in abundance years ago at much...

    Steering Tube Obstruction

Stick around curt, I'm going to demonstrate how to perform a precision job on a kitchen floor. From the photo of the steering tube in my original post which was the only way I could see, the object appeared diffidently than it actually is which confused me initially.

    Steering Tube Obstruction

You know your stuff;) I intend to us multiple bits and finish it with a reamer for a snug fit. I'm currently equipped to deal with 7/8'' 22.2mm. Been holding off on undersized stuff. Time to place some orders.

    Steering Tube Obstruction

That's the problem and what I'm getting at. The quill extension will become too short including the wedge. If I had another inch or so before the shoulder/obstruction it would be doable. In some cases I've filed down the outside radius of the wedge a couple of mm to set the stem a bit lower...

    Steering Tube Obstruction

As I stated earlier. I need a bit more insertion in the steerer for proper fitment to make it function safely. I'll eventually have to bologna cut both extension and stem.

    Steering Tube Obstruction

NO WAY it will slam out cold. The fork legs interfere with the slide hammer's handle for one. There's not enough throw either way. Cleared the end very well before using penetrating fluid. Used a heavy steel rod from the top striking it with everything I had! Just laughed at me. I suspected so...

    Steering Tube Obstruction

Thanks gentlemen. Believe I've heard enough to work with. My slide hammer passes though the split roll. If that won't do, DeWalt will.

    Steering Tube Obstruction

Thanks again, I have a slide hammer but unsure how much pressure is required. I suspect a lot. I'll start by soaking. I don't want to damage the chrome with high heat. I can't tell if it's been brazed welded in. I don't see any evidence of that. Limited vision. I can only use a camera to see...

    Steering Tube Obstruction

Thanks tater. Where would you apply the holding force, and what direction would you pull from? I'm extending a steering tube by an inch without welding. The steering tube gets cut down. The extender is bologna as much as possible and the top is threaded for the race and lock nuts. I need more...

    Steering Tube Obstruction

Thanks for your input Rusty. Hopefully soon, a member who's dealt with this can provide a best answer. "Slowly try" is not my credo. I'm being patient this time before going about something entirely unnecessary. The DeWalt is on standby...

    Steering Tube Obstruction

The fender mount is less of an issue. I want to know specially what the plug thing is and how it can be removed. Appears to be made of two parts. I can't see clear enough. Is it something pressed in? Does the bottom of steerer have an extra thick wall? I've reamed forks with a taper near the...

    Steering Tube Obstruction

Hello fellas, Need some fork anatomy explanation. I'm attempting to install an extender in a fork that has something in the way that can't be easily reamed several inches in. Model mid 70's Sears Free Spirit MX 21.1mm I.D. fork. Bottom view The obstruction. What's its purpose and how can...

    Project Long Frame

Welcome to the Stroker club @1966Jerry. Fine work thus far:cool2: Your thread is linked to Pinterest where I discovered it. The original was a Rollfast Stroker. Well designed. I've put thousands of miles on a frame. Modded 1968 Hawthorne Formula V twin bar. Strokers came in 2 and 3 bar. I've...

    Voting Booths are re-OPEN!

I did ask numerous times for official results. No one replied to me. I know you saw. You honesty do not believe I had every right to call out the site owner for putting @RustyGold and other staff under pressure during an important event? Also, giving voters the opportunity to change their...
