Recommendations for recovering an old Troxel springer saddle?

I like the padding layout, it will be difficult to get the cover to stretch down into the gaps. Stretch it hard front to back first, to get the cover to sink down in the "crack" then start working it around the back.

Recommendations for recovering an old Troxel springer saddle?

Does the Troxel seat have an upper and lower "pan" IF YES, the cover can be stretched / glued / clamped over the top and the bottom pan pinches it in place. IF NO, need some info on how the cover is secured on the original seat.

    The Big Payback

Great looking build. Great gesture to build one for him. Now you need to get him riding.

    Re-re-Upholstery Project

Lawn chair fabric works well when done, but it's not so easy to work with. I had to melt the edges to keep it from unraveling, it's stiff - used a heat gun. But came out pretty cool.

    Re-re-Upholstery Project

Upholstery air stapler makes all the difference, hand stapler stapler doesn't have the power and can't use short staples.

Can you put custom gears on a freewheel?

If you have several thread on multi speed freewheels - same type, the cogs should swap. I've changed out the top gear on a shimano to make a super high. You could grind the teeth off and make shims or buy shims. To make it a single speed and put the chainline where you want it. More...

What are YOU building? Wrong answers only.

It's half built but stalled out. I can remove myself from voting if needed. Welded on v brake mounts, on bottom side of seat stays. Fork needs cut down - just running a steel shim in there for mock up. I finally bought a die to do forks. Bars are from a scooter with extensions welded...

Rat Rod Bikes Build Off #17: Let's Go!!

I like this pile. Maybe I'll get moving on the flightliner I have on the wall and throw it in the mix. Build one of these up, it'll "draw me in"

Tires? Who do we like to replace OEM tires?

Sometimes it's worth buying a whole used bike, just to get some tires. If I look at a used bike with BAD tires, it's almost not worth buying.

    Headset reducer?

Yep. Easy solution, it works without any special stuff or having to wait on an order. I was holding both parts in one hand and the cartoon light bulb appeared above my head - hey these might fit together.

    Headset reducer?

I was trying the same conversion. 1" threaded into 1 1/8" frame and had both cups in my hand. Noticed they almost nested inside each other. Popped them in the vice and the 1" cup pressed into the 1 1/8" cup Assembled the bike with double cups, rode it a while, no issues, and sold it...

Tires? Who do we like to replace OEM tires?

I've been paying up for good tires lately, its painful at checkout, but poor quality tires ride like crap and makes me not wanna get on that bike.

    '36 Elgin Osprey.

I totally missed this build, this is fantastic. Just saw it in finished bikes. What are you using for spring material? I have a springer fork idea using a trailer leaf spring cut down, others have done it too so I'm not claiming it. But it will be heavy. Material you used may be an...

    Murray Fx240

Good recovery. Still have that 24 Murray? I'd weld it up and ride it.

Great job on the seat recover, that's a healthy hide you're working with.

    Little GTO!

Cool little ride, hopefully Jennifer got to ride it while it was still shiny. Let's see where ya go. My opinion, if it matters. Alloy rims with coaster and shiny hubs, frame - kill the rust and wax it up, black or green recover on the seat (more padding), grips to match. Bars, stem, sissy...
