    MELVIN STARR - Progress!!

Nothing much happening, but I did buy some tube yesterday. I'm going to bend a new top tube and make a new new middle tube, so the frame looks something like this. When I replace the tubes, I may even use a different fork and make truss rods for it. I'm finding it a bit hard to get stuff...

    Columbia Convertible Commuter *FINISHED*

I've done it a heap of times with no problems. I'd suggest using a well used drill bit, so it's less likely to grab, then just sand/file any sharp edges.

    MELVIN STARR - Progress!!

Mine is branded as a Hanimex, but I've also seen them with a Bennett brand, and Quicksilver, I think. From memory, I'm pretty sure they were made by Koizumi.

    MELVIN STARR - Progress!!

I decided not to alter the wheelbase after all. I looked at for a while today, and realised if I shorten it by cutting the seat stays and bending the triangle up, it will put more angle on the head tube........I'm happy with the geometry now. I fitted a saddle and stem and bars today and gave it...

    MELVIN STARR - Progress!!

Decided to keep the name, even though the new frame is not a Malvern Star. I've used it as a stage name for a few gigs when I was having issues with a booking agent ;)

    KRAZY HORSE

Ouch!!............I've fitted 2.125 tires onto 3" rims, but the extra inch must have been too much for it.

    MELVIN STARR - Progress!!

Probably only needs to be about an inch shorter Luke. Not much, but I can see in my head............just want the rear tire closer to the seat tube. Also, changing the angle of the seat stays will help with flow of the top tube I'm going to fit.

    MELVIN STARR - Progress!!

I managed to get a few things done today :) :) :) I filed a radius on the bottom of the steerer tube to tidy it up. most people wouldn't see it or know it's been done, but I do . Before After Yeah, I know the tire is on backwards........just a quick mockup. Welded up a crack in the...

    MELVIN STARR - Progress!!

OK........frame change time  Over the last couple of days I've tried every different combination of parts I can think of on the frame, and just can't get the look I have in my head. The wheelbase is too long, and I don't want to cut the frame to shorten it. I could get the look I'm after...

    MELVIN STARR - Progress!!

I ordered a set of these.......they are the only thing I'll have to spend money on for this build (apart from paint). Not sure if I'll use them with a drop or rise. I'll try them both ways when I get them and decide then. The paint is very good, but I want to lose the decals which are buried...

    MELVIN STARR - Progress!!

I went at had a look at my storage area today and did a couple of quick mockups. I can't bring myself to cut this frame, it's just too nice. The current direction, given the parts I have at hand, is a single speed urban commuter with fat slicks. Something like a set of Velo Orange Porteur bars...

    WOW......Already!!!

I will be having fun this year Mark, and will be endeavouring to build a simple, fun bike to rid a lot of miles on. In buildoffs past, I have been guilty of building for votes, but this go-round, will be enjoying the show and watching the keener builders go for it.

    WOW......Already!!!

Had a look through most of the builds this morning............   I was gonna bring my "A Game" this year, only problem is, a heap of other builders have already brought their "AAA Game". Some awesome stuff happening so far!!

    MELVIN STARR - Progress!!

Man, what a freakin' week!! 10 gigs in 7 days, a son with a stomach bug who was throwing up for a couple of days, and then me too with the bug :(. The first time it hit me was at a gig. I threw up on a break and managed to finish off the night without anyone knowing, then hit the chemist the...

    What's your motivation?

I'd just got home from a gig when I initially posted this and was in desperate need of sleep. In my home town at the moment, a national/international triennial beef expo (BEEF 2015) is happening, so the town is overflowing with visitors for a couple of weeks. There are gigs aplenty, so I have...

    What's your motivation?

Right now I have none . On top of my day job as a high school teacher, I have just played 4 gigs in 3 days, and have 6 gigs next week. I won't be thinking about, looking at or touching my bike for at least 2 weeks :(.

    MELVIN STARR - Progress!!

OK.........I'm in :). I was going to sit this one out, but have decided to do a basic build. We have a new house, and don't have anywhere at home to build until I get my shed built, so I'll have to build at work at lunch and after work. The frame I'm using is a newer Malvern Star (old Aussie...
