    Reuse old spokes?

Most people don't have access to the tools needed to properly rethread a shortened spoke - the threads aren't cut with a die, they are rolled so they're stronger. The cross 4 pattern sounds like a great solution if it works out.

~?What Else Do You Collect ?~

I have a bunch of diecast cars, including Matchbox and Hot Wheels, but most of my Hot Wheels (and a lot of other childhood "treasures") were sold off at the height of eBay, back when it was still an auction site for average people and not just storefronts. I have a few guitars but I'm not sure...

    Anybody else have a motorcycle?

I've got flatslides on a couple of Super Sports (the yellow one already shown and also a track bike... that I've never ridden...) The trackbike had the airbox removed too, so it's a lot easier to work on than the one with an airbox. They're both still a PITA to start after they've been sitting...

    Anybody else have a motorcycle?

It was the annual all clubs meet in Stockbridge yesterday, I broke out the Superlight instead of being on yet another Multistrada. Beautiful day for it. I've been posting the picture in every other forum on the 'net, it'd be rude not to post it here too.

    Fixing up a Schwinn

The fact that it says "Schwinn Quality" vs simply "Schwinn" makes me think it's not a Chicago made bike. No idea on how the badges were attached. Everything so far says this is an early '90s "Schwinn" Check this out: https://ratrodbikes.com/threads/1992-schwinn-cruiser-on-the-block.11056/

    Fixing up a Schwinn

Between the guard and the wheels I'd be skeptical that the frame is an old school Chicago Schwinn frame. I seem to recall that later "Schwinns" had serial numbers that confused the Schwinn date decoder schemes. What does the fork look like and where is the serial number? For reference, here...

    Show us your Dogs/Cats/Pets

This is Ollie on his 15th birthday a few dyas ago. He's doing great for 15! We got him at 8 years old and the vet told us a dog like him had a 10-12 year life expectancy. Way to beat the odds little guy!

Welding Chromoly Frame With Flux Core

titanium... I had a program at work where we used it. OEMs were looking for weight savings so I had what was basially a cat-back system made for a Jeep Cherokee. All one piece, no clamps. It weighed something like 6.5 lbs but it flexed like a, um, something pretty springy. Mounted it on a...

Welding Chromoly Frame With Flux Core

I'm not looking for an argument either but no, comments on stiffness have nothing to do with strength. Stiffness and strength of a material are not interchangable, one does not follow the other. No, strength does not include stiffness. A thinner walled chromoly tube will be less stiff than a...

Welding Chromoly Frame With Flux Core

Who made the statement it wasn't stronger? "Mild" steel is called mild for a few reasons. Although it has lower tensile strength, it is also "mild" in the sense that it is more affordable, more ductile, easier to machine, and easier to weld than the fancier alloys. "Mild" isn't a bad thing...

Welding Chromoly Frame With Flux Core

No way that frame is any kind of upmarket material, the construction is so low end it would be insane to use anything other than the cheapest steel they could get. I'd guess the dropouts were crimped and spot welded. Again, cheapest/fastest methods would have been used and there's no evidence...

I Think I Just Became a Motorcycle Enthusiast

That SP is actually an 888 SP0 that belongs to a friend/neighbor/coworker (when I used to work) I had a CR back in '95. An SP later. And now a 900ss trackbike that I've never ridden and may sell...

I Think I Just Became a Motorcycle Enthusiast

I see these retro styled bikes and think back to when I wanted one. Instead I bought the real deal and rebuilt it. 1974 Ducati 750GT. I figured it would be worth less than I had into it when I was done, but a new bike would depreciate too, right? About three years and a few dollars later I...

Welding Chromoly Frame With Flux Core

No flames intended, but let me ask why are you wanting to use chrome moly? It's harder to weld, it's no stiffer than mild steel, and no lighter than mild steel. If you simply substitute chrome moly for mild steel on your frame you will end up with a frame that's harder to fabricate but no...

    Schwinn and Tires

From what I see you are showing you put a fractional tire on a Schwinn rim, just like he said (nine years ago). I'm not sure what you're showing here... seems like you're proving his point?

    7 Speed Schwinn Klunker Build

Buy an old Varsity, mix and match parts to make it work. You will have to make sure the front derailleur will fit the cruiser frame. You will have to add brakes as mentioned, is the frame fork set up for them? You will have to use bolt on cable stops or clamps to hold everything in place. If you...

I Think I Just Became a Motorcycle Enthusiast

Rideable? Yeah, that video shows it can move on it's own power, but that's a pretty low bar to use to define the term. You can eat poo and not die, that doesn't mean I'd call it edible. I'll stick to my original opinon that it's worthless as a "motorcycle" and any claims of high performance...

Will a motorcycle fender fit over 26x4 fat bike tires?

I don't know if these will help, but here are a couple shots of fenders for an 18" motorcycle wheel tossed onto a 26" Typhoon. They wouldn't fit in the frame and these tires are smaller of course but might give you some idea of what the radius looks like. They have some tubing under them to...

    1971 Schwinn Runabout ????
