    Twice Round the Bend

I just looked at this one yesterday. But I passed on it. It looked much better in the picture.

Those Aussie Mopars are very unique. There are always a few at the Mopar Nationals every year. I always take time to look them over.

I used to have a '48 Plymouth coupe gasser with a tunnel ram 440, straight axle, ladder bars, cheater slicks, and all of the typical gasser stuff. Very scary car to drive. I wish I had a picture of it. It looked a lot like this one:

My charger is a '73 Rallye, 400 Magnum, 4-speed Pistol Grip, sunroof car. The only one known to exist with the options I listed, and those are the original tires.

I have been reconsidering the bracket I made that cracked. It seems to still be really solid despite the crack. I can actually pick the bike up by the headlight. I think I am going to keep the original style Elgin wheels with the Stewart-Warner hub. It just seems to be the right wheels and...

I didn't have all of the parts anyway, but I still think I can make it work. I probably should enter Class II before I get too far.

I mocked-up that crazy idea I had and it was terrible. Completely un-ridable. I guess that's why we do mock-ups. I'm already working on another idea for Class II.

I haven't been on stage in probably 35 years, but I still have at least 50 guitars. I listen to everything from classical to bluegrass to German heavy industrial metal (depending on my mood).

Here's one of those suicide shifter Elgins.

That ad makes it pretty convincing. "Now how much would you pay?" But I still don't know how it should be mounted in the forks.

I have been fitting other parts together just to see if this is even feasible. It looks like it might work. Still a lot of experimentation going on. I probably should enter it in Class II before I get too far into it.

I get some really outrageous ideas when I'm bored (and I'm constantly bored). I have started putting something together that's so bizarre that it's just crazy. If things go right, I may have an entry for Class II. I can hear the nitpickers already!

Does that mean all of the 20's have been turned into 60's? That's just one of the reasons I don't care for restored bikes, you never know what they really were originally. I am a minimalist builder, so I actually prefer the 20. Then I remove even more parts (fenders, seat bracket, kickstand...

I found some pictures of the Twin 20 bike from when I bought it. It's most likely a '39 because of the date code on the rear hub. Most of these Twin 20s are very unique because of the amount of options and colors available.

This would be interesting to replicate. They actually offered this bike with a 2-speed hub where the shifter is mounted by the rear wheel. Reminds me of a suicide shifter on a Harley.

Thanks for the idea, but that would be way too shiny. I still have some other options using some old junk I have around here. I always try to use stuff as old as the bike (or looks as old as the bike) when I have to fabricate a part.

Well, I really wanted to do something to the bike today. So, I went ahead and tried to modify that old bottle opener that I was using to hold the truss rods. I bent the front down and drilled the holes I needed to mount the headlight and the truss rods. But you can already see that it didn't...

That's unusual. You are riding yours and I haven't even thought about riding mine yet! So much for my 3-day builds from the past. This is an exercise of patience for me, but now I want to put a chain on that beach and try it out. It's not easy cutting down an original skip-toother. Ride on!
