    ELGIN TWIN 9

Installed the original stem and took a few more close-up shots. Speaking of shots, it's time for a beverage. It's always happy hour when you're retired!

The forks still have the unique nickel-plated top nut. Here are some close-ups of the 82 year-old patina.

I am still not completely set on the name being "A Perfect 10". That was just the first idea that came to mind. There are so many other possibilities, especially with the original color being green (my favorite color). Anyway, I had to do a lot of minor adjustments to get the shrouds to fit...

    ELGIN TWIN 9

I'm happy to hear that they're not fragile. I'm not small being 6'2" and 250. But no ramp jumping for me anymore, just cruising. My head is spinning with so many ideas for this bike! And you know I like to experiment.

    ELGIN TWIN 9

Here it is: My "Perfect 10" build-off project. A '39 Elgin Twin 20. I do have the complete original bike (with beautiful patina). My initial idea is to make the first Elgin Twin 10 (by omitting some of the luxury items like the fenders, the headlight, and the chrome wheels). But I have many...

There were like 5 different model levels. And it's prewar.

I have had a few of them, but never "ruined" one.

    ELGIN TWIN 9

My new build-off project is a type of bike that I never thought I would own. Mostly because the remaining examples are usually restored and always seem to be loaded with fancy stuff. Since I am more of a minimalistic builder, I don't care for bikes with a lot of "stuff" on them. To me, it's...

    ELGIN TWIN 9

Well I have almost achieved "page 3 slacker" status, so I better do something drastic. It's very difficult to stay current when you no longer own your build-off bike. And I don't want to just post "filler" to stay high on the list. Honestly, I was very disappointed with how the BLUE FLAME was...

I like that heavy look. And the only way to do it is with a lightweight material. "Heavy aluminum" is just a cool concept. And I'll bet it rides super solid. It would make a great high speed downhill racer.

I meant the weight of the whole bike. A standard Silver King frame is 6 pounds and a Wingbar is 9. I figured that the hex would be in between there somewhere.

For headbadge rivets, I use a long heavy straight-edge screwdriver. Put the side of the straight edge on the rivet from the inside and push it out using a lever action like a pry bar. It has never failed me.

I've got an '02 sportster with a Buell Lightning motor (101 HP) that is stripped to the bare essentials (400 lbs). Built it many years ago. I'm scared to ride it anymore.

My wife tolerates my many hobbies (hoardies?). I always take them over the top. But she knows that I always make money on everything when I finally sell it. But I rarely sell anything.

I just sold over 100 vintage bikes and most of my parts. I have 3 left. And the wife had nothing to do with it. Just the right time. I have already bought a Twin Bar. Probably going to switch my entry to it.

Loving this build! I never tried a long-nose Shelby springer on a curved-tube Elgin frame, but it looks just like something I would do. And the orange with bare metal just seals the deal. Keep the beer flowing!
