    Murray Beach Comber/AMC VII

Yeah, especially as I’m getting older I always prefer having a selection of gears under my thumb. I just rode this bike 10 miles today and I shifted the heck out of it. With the little front sprocket I have on there, it’s geared REALLY low and I love it. Normally on a 7- speed bike I would end...

Well, folks, we got gears. Seven of 'em. I ordered a nice new Jagwire derailleur cable with gray housing to match the gray brake cable housings, but it's from a Fleabay seller in China and I have no idea when I'll get it. So I got impatient and bought 6 feet of plain black housing from the LBS...

That’s kind of what I was thinking. Sounds like some repositioning of the caliper and spacers is in order.

Aaaaaand we have brakes. That basket is just something I'm thinking about; if anything I'd attach it to the rack with zip ties. Not sure if I like it. Question regarding rear brake fitment for someone who would know better than me: Did I put the spacer on the wrong side of the frame? I have...

    Dona Regina build thread

Very interesting. I have 4 or 5 tabs open right now looking for cable guides online. I'd love to find a stash of the old Schwinn spring clip types, but the closest things I can find are either on Alibaba (are they safe to order from?) or cost like $15 for four of them. I have a roll of utility...

    W I D E & Loaded - OUT, unfortunately ☹️

Man, I needed one of them last year. I was searching junkyards and swap meets for a 15 x 7 GM small bolt pattern (5 x 4.75) steelie, which is harder to find than you might think. I had to 3D print three or four of these things before I got the measurements right.

What a difference a couple of hours makes! Robbed the wheels off the red Collegiate build and swapped out the tires with some mega-fat Cheng Shins I had here before bolting them up. Then added some bars (very close in style to Wald 803s, but not exactly the same) and a seat that's been waiting...

Hmm. So I am in what you would call a quandary. I have a dilemma. I'm perplexed. Now that the school year is over and I can take a breath (and we got that pesky water heater leak out of the way and in the process reorganized the basement), I finally dragged the old Murray carcass up from the...

    1951 Arnold Schwinn Admiral

I threw this up in Fresh Finds when I dragged it home a month or so ago. Today I finally had a few minutes to play with it. Pretty much all I did was put on some less crusty tires and tubes and patch the fender braces together. Other than that, it was just adjust the seat and bars, hose it...

What have you been riding lately?

This thing, whatever you call it. Not a BMX cruiser, not a strandie, but kind of a little of each.

Two new finds: Trek BMX and '51 Schwinn

Yeah, the guy who picked it up for me (he's actually my daughter's boyfriend) is big into mid school too; he has a couple of Specialized Fatboy Hemis. This is one he built for my daughter along with his Diamondback Assault: He has other Haros too. I gotta get pictures sometime. He suggested I...

Two new finds: Trek BMX and '51 Schwinn

So apparently the bicycle gods have been with me this spring. A couple months ago, a friend of a friend mentioned that he had this old Trek to get rid of, left in a shed by a previous occupant: Said friend retrieved it for me a couple weeks ago, and I've been picking at it. I have rebuilt...

Who are you? (with a bike of course)

HA. That’s not mine. It belongs to a friend who runs our group rides. It’s really called a Monster Cruiser and it’s made by Coker Tire. It has 36-inch (!) tires. He has added the hi-riser bars and a motorcycle seat and sissy bar, and I’m pretty sure he added the Nexus internally geared rear...

Who are you? (with a bike of course)

No idea how I have not noticed this thread till now… This is me, on a Ross Polobike that’s captioned incorrectly, attending the Simple Transport aircooled VW and bicycle event in Hagerstown, MD. Pretty cool that I made it into Hot VWs magazine. And then this is from several years ago. When...

    Murray Beach Comber/AMC VII

Well, this is my starting point. I picked it up maybe 10 years ago at a yard sale looking like this. The sellers said it had belonged to their son, and he loved to ride it, but sadly he had passed away. I have always wanted to build it up into something cool as a tribute to its former owner...

    You in with what?

I've tried to build this one up a few times. But nothing ever stuck. I've been kinda gathering parts... we'll see what we end up with.

    2021 Schwinn Predator Team 24

Nice! I was aware that there was a green Stranger Things version, but I didn't know about some of the differences I see in the frame there. Like for example yours has a gusset like some of the 20" Predators from the early '80s. Also, your rear dropouts look closer to what the 1983 bike would...

    2021 Schwinn Predator Team 24

A few years back, Schwinn rolled out a Predator Team 24 which was essentially a tribute bike to the '83 model. Steel frame instead of chromoly, steel components instead of alloy, so it was a boat anchor, but hey, it looked great anyway. They started out on Amazon around $279 or $299 or so. For...

playing around with a knockoff GoPro

Dunno if this link will work, but one of the guys who occasionally rides with us has a 360 camera like that. The guy in the blue T-shirt riding the red-orange Fastback is holding a pole/stick with the camera on it: Did I understand his explanation correctly? The way he put it, I thought that...
