    4D LaSalle

Back to work on the LaSalle. To fill the whole on the tank, I used to use stainless plugs. But recently, I came across these handy dandy dummy horn buttons that fit the holes for all the Delta horns. I bolted it in as soon as it was delivered. Will need to find some slotted screws before it’s...

Haha, I really hit a wall, didn’t I? I’ll get some posts up by the weekend.

    4D LaSalle

So I saw this at the Cyclone Coasters monthly ride here in LBC. 39 LaSalle I believe. Not a perfect original or anything but a very nice bike and it made me want to go home and make some moves on my LaSalle entry! I think I’ll start by drilling some holes in some metal!

lol, busted! Not much I can do about that one. If they bug me too much I’ll just get rid of em!

Found some hardware and mounted the wheels. More of that muted metal look. I go to great lengths to not have any exposed threads, Phillips’s head screws, etc.Been soaking the skip tooth chain in rustoleum rust remover, wire brushing, repeat. Starting to look like the rest of the bare metal...

    Cadillac

I quit, you win! But seriously, that is one of my all time favorite frames, and to be badged Cadillac is just amazing. Funny that Cadillac LaSalle was one company, yet Shelby licensed Cadillac While Schwinn did the LaSalle (my entry is a ‘40).

    Schwinn Varsity Party Bike

Okay, all this “party bike“ talk happening so I had to chime in about what kids in SoCal in the 80s referred to as a party bike. (None of this is to say that I don’t love yours- been looking for the right clean met. green Schwinn for years to no avail). So you know those years where your...

Here’s the banquet bike. 53 Schwinn cantilever. Mostly original with some repro parts. We usually pair it up with my wife’s Maybelline bike, 1958 ladies, built similarly but to look like the mascara bottle. We have 3 “matched sets”. Also have the Duralium bikes and a pair of 1951 Hornets.

I like that gold! I painted a set a similar color for my Shelby I entered in the BO a few years back.

So if you have followed any of my past builds, you know that I love to run the drop center Electra rims. In my opinion, they’re the only modern rims that have a proper vintage look. I found this set on a 90s Schwinn in my town for $30 bucks. Got the reissue typhoon tires and script grips off the...

It’s real easy to get something wrong when lacing spokes. But no, I just got excited to get the wheel set together once the rear hub showed up. That will be my next big post.

Yeah, the stem and the cranks and chainwheel. Everything else is kinda grungy. But a true hot rod usually has a mix of parts in various stages of degradation, right? Hopefully it helps with making it look like I ruined a perfectly good ‘40 LaSalle, rather than cobbled one together!

Got some handle bars in. Another case of not having anything to fit the bill. Not sure what these are exactly, just prewarish with decent chrome. Working on wheels and tires now. Screwed up and laced in the rear hub without taking a single photo.

Made big moves over the weekend! Had to wait for a headset from the bay. Nothing I had would do the bike justice. In fact, I bought a whole other fork so I could get this headset and the struts I was missing. cCleaned them up and got them pressed in. Most people refer to my press as a rubber...

Speaking of muted metal. I got the seat post and seat clamp looking good and installed. The clamp was welded to the frame but cleaned up pretty nice. The post is new. Bought 5 feet of 13/16 solid steel and my buddy heated and bent up 6 of them. Already used three on other projects. Then a bunch...

You know, and some wheels, tires, seat and grips, lol. But I do want some of that muted metal look.

Finally had time to get a little work done. This heart sprocket and crank were made at least 30 years apart, but they’ve both been rechromed and look pretty good together. Also got the new bearing cups in. Rather than cobble together the bottom bracket hardware, I found a complete set on the bay...

    4D LaSalle

Man, That’s a real life statue down the highway from where I’m staying. Didn’t mean anything good bad or otherwise by it. It simply exists. The point was the I’ll be busy not working on bikes for a few days.
