BO15 DURALIUS - 1936 Wards Hawthorne- Done. BOTH Of Them!

This is the stem I’m using. Polished it up and slid it on the bars.Brooks leather grips. Leave it to the brits to take something so simple and make it 30 pieces. I counted the parts on my seat before I hacked it up. 35 parts! Anyway, I think they look cool. And definitely fit my euro/deco/rat...

BO15 DURALIUS - 1936 Wards Hawthorne- Done. BOTH Of Them!

My thoughts exactly! Nothing perfect going on this bike, even if it is a little shiny for a RRB. Just a good mix of cool parts- at least I think so!

Thanks! It’s starting to look like something! I like that the only paint on the bike will be that stripe on the hub!

Copper Stripe hub laced in. Old cream Duro brickyards that I scrubbed to death with Bleche-Wite to get them to look okay.

BO15 DURALIUS - 1936 Wards Hawthorne- Done. BOTH Of Them!

Woo hoo! This is probably the biggest reveal for this build. I was so excited to put these together that I had the spokes in before I took a pic. They are copper plated and then Clear Powdercoated. Electra drop center wheels, rear hub is a red stripe (now a copper stripe). Bars are new Wald...

BO15 DURALIUS - 1936 Wards Hawthorne- Done. BOTH Of Them!

Seat post was basically rust. I polished on it for a good hour. You really won’t see any of it anyway. So I have this Brooks Seat I like, but l really don’t like the hairpin in the front. So I chopped it off. Polished everything else up and found a way to bolt it all back up. Hoping to...

BO15 DURALIUS - 1936 Wards Hawthorne- Done. BOTH Of Them!

The only “gimme” on this bike was the OG/Wald dog leg and chain wheel that were in good condition. not much rust on the crank and there was even a little copper showing through. It doesn’t look like there is any way to date these. Just says Wald in the center. Polished up and installed.

    BO15 ITZARAT - 1928 Schwinn Motorbike (WALK-AROUND + RIDE VIDEO!!!)

Stacking the deck with that Steve VanDemon pinstriping! My buddy sent me a photo this morning and said “I wonder if this guy is in the same competition as you?” Looking good, man. Definitely one of my favorites.

BO15 DURALIUS - 1936 Wards Hawthorne- Done. BOTH Of Them!

Pennies, you say? I bought 50, all 1936, for like 9 bucks. I drilled them out to use as washers. Starting with the seat stay bolts, since they weren’t OG anyway. Stainless acorn nuts, copper penny washers. It’s legal, I checked. Used a stainless Allen bolt under the fork. Wasted a week deciding...

BO15 DURALIUS - 1936 Wards Hawthorne- Done. BOTH Of Them!

These are the last two incarnations of the Shelby. First with the white parts and then a rebuild with the black last summer. It’s a fun rider.

BO15 DURALIUS - 1936 Wards Hawthorne- Done. BOTH Of Them!

No photo updates because nothing has happened. Tore apart the garage to cobble together a headset but just didn’t have the parts. My options at this point are wait for the SoCal Cycle swap This Sunday and hope I get lucky, or take apart my Shelby “rust bike” for its headset. I have never...

BO15 DURALIUS - 1936 Wards Hawthorne- Done. BOTH Of Them!

There isn’t much you can do, although the better they’re polished the longer they seem to last. At least that’s true in the billet wheel world. People are starting to clear coat polished aluminum with Ceracote clear. it’s an extremely durable ceramic paint that I believe was originally used on...

BO15 DURALIUS - 1936 Wards Hawthorne- Done. BOTH Of Them!

Okay, I’m satisfied and ready to move on. It’s shiny, and I can still hit spots with never dull if think it needs it. I never found an early style headset, so I’m going to have to go digging for whatever I have.
