Cut two 2” lengths of 5/8” stainless. 2” is too much. The othe bike pictures was an inch and a half, but that seems long. So 1” seems about right. This tubing has a slightly smaller OD, so I’m going to try to find something closer.

I haven't welded anything yet. Once I come up with a solution, my brain generally turns off. What ideas do you have?

Today I got back the forks with the long steer tube. And it is long! Which worried me because what would the fork tubes look like as they came through the top plate? But the original top plate wasn’t going to work. I knew that. So I worked a couple design modifications with my laser guy...

It’s only original once, but you’re not building an original bike. So do what feels right. If you can restore the paint, great. But candy apple red is really an awesome color too, and totally fitting.

This is my first real Barracuda. I built the King ‘Cuda 26” clone (see my build page) but that isn’t an original. The actual Barracuda has some mysteries I have to solve. Such as… why are there 3 chain guard mounting holes, when only the top hole puts the guard in the right position? And...

Poked around with the front wheel. Scuffed it and I’m covering and smoothing out mold marks.

Awesome project! This is your first MBBO? Welcome! There’s so much support for Schwinn out there that bringing this back will be easy! (Not cheap… but easy!)
