Best gearing for 26" single speed

Yeah, sure, different strokes fit different folks but I ride with some old timers and I don't think any of'm are pushing lot than 58" on the street. I know some tried roadies who take on the scenery on the big ring, pushing gears closer to 100" one more. Of course, there are factors other than...

Best gearing for 26" single speed

2:1 on 26"s is 52"; for me, that's way too low for street cruising...

How did you come up with your AVATAR ? And Screen Name ?

I already responded ages ago about my handle and my old Avatar. The current one is the Photobucket ransom note, because Photobucket has almost destroyed many online forums and I wanted to be a brat about it.

Help with Tire Choices.............. Klunker Style

It's all Cheng Shin. The cheapest tires will say Cheng Shin on them; I think they use the CST and Maxxis aliases so they can get away from the whole super cheap stigma. Cheng Shin has been making tires for longer than I've been alive, and they are the folks who brought us the original snake bellies

Yeah those are all the same tire. CST makes the bft in 26x2.4, 26x4.0, 27.5x3.0, and 29x3.0. None of them are available folding, as far as I know. They are basically Maxxis High Roller knock offs for half the price with fewer options available. I rode trails on then as aggressively as a chubby...

Help with Tire Choices.............. Klunker Style

Yeah, BITD, the 70s guys made do with the tractor-tread jawns like Steve posted way up top. But, in this day and age, we have all these awesome, fat, 559/s2-sized trailworthy knobbies, and they look bad¨butt¨ on a cruiser built for blasting trails. If you want an aggressive but cheap knobby...

    1960's Worksman Forks?

Must´ve been quite a hit, to do that to those. The lugged crown Akisu forks that were OEM on Worksman INBs for all those years are some of the strongest cheap forks i´ve ever ran. Check´m out in action in this video, courtesy of Transition Bikes:

Yeah, measure between the stays, leave a little room for mud clearance or your rims being a little out of true.... and then stuff the fattest real MTB tires you can fit in there. Leave all these tractor/cruiser tires for the JCA street machines, and get something with real trail credentials...

Maxxis Minion DHF 26x2.5 Skinwall, if you actually plan to klunk for real, and if your frame/fork can clear 2.5¨ meat...and, if having a skin- or gum-wall appeals to you. I´m seeing pretty much all cruiser tires being mentioned upthread; most of those can survive off-road, but they won´t hook...

Me, too. I'm basically done even trying to post pics anymore. I've wasted more time than I'd care to admit on a couple of posts

Best gearing for 26" single speed

Got nothing to do with the inseam. Bigger wheels=talked final drive, so you need to hear down to accommodate for the larger wheel diameter. You wanna calculate on gear inches rather than on a simple front sprocket: rear sprocket ratio. The overall gear is going to be different with different...

    7/8" Laidback Seatpost?

That's a really good idea, actually.... I hope it works out. I think the hardest part is going to be that the posts are going to bend, if they're tubular sky like most Kalloy posts... And they may not want their rep damaged. Personally, I'd be happy to spend on some Kalloy 13/16" and 7/8" micro...

    One of my Worksman builds

Sorry for the delayed response, SKPC... I just saw the question. The fork is spaces at 100mm, it is 1.125" set up for threadless. Both the front and rear hubs are Shimano XT HB-M756. These were the last 6 bolt hubs that Shimano made before going to center lock. XT is now far beyond the...

    REDUCED DAVO'Z CUSTOM REFLECTORS

I haven't mounted my reflectors yet, but they are some very nice pieces of bike art. I showed'm to the fellas, and they were quite impressed. Well+made, and classy. I got the ones with the 5/16" bearing cages. They look sweet.
