    Remix of Remix

I decided my Remix bike - the Murray Mixtie turned rat rod - needed some red wheels, so I got busy and painted up a set yesterday while the weather was still warm. I thought Steve would like it since the wheels now match the picture of the wheel up at the top of the forum page. :D Here's...

The Colson Clone-video added 1-1-08 (Happy New Year to all)

Re: The Colson Clone -video added 1-1-08 (Happy New Year to all) Okay, on the questions, the distance from the center of the crank to the center of the seat - as it's adjusted now - is 66 cm. Now you have to understand that cm is kind of a foreign measurement for us Texans. We usually measure...

Re: The Colson Clone Got a last minute update from Paul that he got the Nexus shifter hooked up on it and the grips on so it's pretty much done now. He said it sat great and also rode great, so he's really pleased with the way it turned out.

Re: The Colson Clone Work continues on the Colson clone. Here is a shot of the mock up with a few more parts added. Then today Paul took it apart, painted it, and got it back together again and rideable - even though not yet fully done. Here are a few shots of the almost complete bike...

    The stretched Penny

Buzzy, it was funny. There were actually a couple of different people who said they were interested in the frame, but they had no idea where to get the other parts to put a bike together or how to even go about doing it. The words "chopper" and "lowrider" got their attention, but they really...

has anyone ever used Krylon Fusion Plastic Paint

WT, that link was interesting, but I was reading about some of their products and I checked the pricing on one of them and it was $97 for a quart of the stuff or almost $300 for a gallon. You can buy a lot of whitewall tires for $97.

    Information on running wide tires

Stephen, thanks for the information. From the feedback it sounds like you can run 2.5" or 3" on most bikes without too much problem.

Re: The Colson Clone Boy, they offered a bunch of different color combinations, didn't they. I always thought guys bikes were red or black and ladies bikes were blue and that was it. Oh, and of course if you owned an English Racer like my neighbor did, those were always black. Speaking of...

    Information on running wide tires

Rick, the bike looks good with those tires on there and they do have plenty of room. Thanks for passing along the information.

Re: The Colson Clone Yeah, we've used those garage door opener chains on a couple of the bikes - including the very first one Paul built - which is probably still my favorite. That one also has the top tube built from a piece of the T-bar rail from the same old garage door opener...

Re: The Colson Clone FOB - at 6' 8" you may need one stretched even more! :D It's all a matter of how much chain you can get together, haha, since these suckers take about 2 Wally World chains.

Re: The Colson Clone Paul said there was actually enough room to run a 4 wide tire - assuming anyone made one that wide. And yes, Steve did get me and Paul messing with bikes again - after who knows how long. So it's become a fun past time for both of us.

Re: The Colson Clone Okay, no sooner did I post that last picture than I got two more from Paul. Here's the bike mocked up with some wheels and a springer. He said if it rides as good as it sits and looks, it will be "the one" - and replace OJ - his original orange bike that has the triple...

Re: The Colson Clone Paul kept working on the Colson clone today and he just sent me a new photo of his progress. He said he made the back end (chain stay) wide enough and long enough to handle just about any size tire. I have only seen the pictures myself, but it's looking good so far.

The Colson Clone-video added 1-1-08 (Happy New Year to all)

Hooch, Paul decided that he hated to chop up the '37 Colson frame you sold him, but he really liked the style of the frame. So instead of cutting up the original he decided to use it for a template to come up with something similar - only with a 6" stretch to get those pedals out there. So...

    The stretched Penny

One more thing. Paul said that if you spray clear over that copper color it turns to more of a brown looking color instead of the bright copper. So if you use that color and are considering using clear over it you might paint some other metal first, put the clear on it, and be sure you like...

    The stretched Penny

This one is for Hugo .... I forgot to mention that Paul bought that chopper frame with the front end on it, a seat on it, and a new crank, sprocket, and chrome pedals - for $50 at one of the local flea markets. He bought it just for the parts and didn't care about the frame itself. Later we...

    The stretched Penny

Paul said the paint was Krylon Copper - sprayed over a white primer base coat. The problem with the blue frame was that it had a super long neck on it. Here is one version of how it could have looked if done stock. An initial thought was to use the frame for the new bike and just shorten...

    The stretched Penny

Paul's (Uncle Stretch) wife Betty decided that he had done enough guys bikes and so she wanted him to build her a strecth bike of her own. He bought a chopper / low rider frame and parts a while back - mainly to get the triple tree fork off of it to use on another of his bikes. So he was left...

    Information on running wide tires

Thanks Stephen and Clancy. I knew a bunch of people probably played around with the wider tires so it's best to get their experiences before hand rather than running into the same issues later. I will check out those other threads too.
