Update on the stretch bikes - video added 12/17/07

Re: Update on the stretch bikes Here are a few more shots of the latest creation. Paul took some of the parts off of his other bikes and got it going. So here are some shots of it in primer and then some with the orange paint job (since he had some left from one of his previous build). And...

Anticipation or.. A tribute to Hugo

Aaron, you are right on. I get all excited about finding a cheap deal on Craigslist or going with my brother and finding some bikes for $5 at the scrap yard. Then I get the bikes home and into the garage and they suddenly become work!! I either have to fix them or clean them up or do...

    Need a good laugh?

Buck, you may have a scrap place by you and not even know it. Those places are places that recycle metal - so aluminum cans, copper wire, all types of scrap metal, etc. People usually bring in scrap metal by the truck load and sometimes in their load of scrap there is a bike or two...

Update on the stretch bikes - video added 12/17/07

Re: Update on the stretch bikes Steve, I think the plan is to put the bottom bracket at the end of that lower tube - so kind of hanging out there by itself. That was originally the design Paul was looking for - something different than the standard bike setup. After he mocked it up he decided...

    Need a good laugh?

I guess he needs to get it cleaned up, aired up, and then take it for a ride.  Yeah, right. It's a Huffy Good Vibrations frame - like the one I used for my build off bike. Here's my use of the same frame ... versus this nice custom chopper ... It's really hard to say...

Re: Update on the stretch bikes - new one begun Paul (Uncle Stretch) decided that maybe he would do better building a stretch bike from scratch, so the project has begun. Check out the work so far ... first he built a rear section and then had a machine shop build him some drop outs to...

    Need a good laugh?

Paul (Uncle Stretch to Steve) was out roaming today - heading to the metal place to buy some pipe for his latest creation - and while he was out he stopped by a scrap yard and asked if they had any junk bikes laying around. They gave him a couple of bikes - one Free Spirit that has a 3 speed...

Re: Update on the stretch bikes Hugo, based on those drawings it looks like you are right. Going to a straight fork might actually increase the "trail" and make things worse. According to the drawings I would have to do like you suggested - and either bend the fork further out - or put on...

Update on the stretch bikes - video added 12/17/07

Re: Update on the stretch bikes Hugo, my brother suggested putting one of the later model straight forks on the bike in place of the one that's on it. So something similar to bending the fork to get less rake. It's not real bad to ride, but when I ride the blue stretch bike - which is...

Re: Update on the stretch bikes Here are the first shots of "Remix" - the Murray Mixtie gone hot rod. Currenly it's in hot rod black primer. Not sure if it will stay that color or end up something else. I still need to primer the chainguard and get that back on and also hook up the shifter...

Grease in my Shimano 333 hub

Thanks, Cman. Sounds like regular motor oil is the deal. My brother said he read somewhere that if the oil in them was too thick you could clean it out by putting kerosene or similar oil into the hub, letting it soak, then draining it and putting the correct oil back in. So I will probably...

Re: Update on the stretch bikes I think he conduit. But exactly what is it you want him to do?  I think he's used an array of tubing, galvanized pipe, stainless steel tubing, etc. Just whatever works out on the bike he's building. Usually it's either something that will go...

Update on the stretch bikes - video added 12/17/07

Re: Update on the stretch bikes Buck, I have mixed emotions on the tires on the red bike. Sometimes I look at the picture with blackwalls and I like that. Then I look at the one with whitewalls and I like that too. I guess either way works okay. The funny thing is that the blackwalls were...

Grease in my Shimano 333 hub

I recently bought a bike that had a Shimano 333 rear hub on it. I was going to use the wheels on another bike. Once I got it home I checked and the shifter rod was not working properly - not coming out on it's own and staying stuck in, as if maybe the spring inside was broken or something. I...

Update on the stretch bikes - video added 12/17/07

Re: Update on the stretch bikes I just reposted the red bike on the Houston CL. Paul thought it looked good with blackwalls so that's what he put on it, but after seeing the listing we decided whitewalls were probably better. As Steve mentioned, Paul's the design, cut, fix, and weld guy and...

    KOOL BREEZE

It just dawned on me that the rear wheel from the BMX doesn't have a coaster brake. So I guess they won't do you any good. Sorry about that.

    KOOL BREEZE

Steve, I still have the set of 20" BMX wheels that came on that bike my neighbors were throwing away. Those might work on your Breeze - and look similar to the one Hooch did. I think the tires may even be decent. I will save them for you if you want them.

    loco ...... ( like a party )

The bike looks great. Nice job of taking some shots of it in front of what looks to be a Mexican restaurant. Markm, great idea on using a mountain bike extender to build a set back seat post. I think I have some of those laying around so I need to check that out sometime.

Re: Update on the stretch bikes Okay, one more and I'm done. This is what Paul does when he doesn't have a frame to work on .... He built a foot for the bottom of his kickstand. Cute, huh.

Re: Update on the stretch bikes To get a perspective of the stretch, here are a couple of shots of the red bike lined up next to a stock cruiser. First one was taken with the cranks on both bikes in line - showing how much further back the seat post is sitting compared to the crank location...
