Rat Rod Bikes Build Off #14?

Fair enough. Still, it’s les than 24hrs now (in Aus) and tearing down what miight end up being the donor frame seems to be in the spirit of ‘building’ to me.

Rat Rod Bikes Build Off #14?

Similar to Juggernaut from last year? Unfinished custom frame that was allowed in to the build off.

Rat Rod Bikes Build Off #14?

I’ve been trying to be patient waiting for the start. Had a look at some images As inspiration. I really need to tear down my main donor to see what’s next but know that’s against the rules! Thinking I might be aiming a little high at this point, but I’m keen to stretch my skill set.

    Mustang revived.

As it sits, it’s a rider. The blue grips and rims seem to go well with the original stickers. Think I’ll need to find something better for the bars. These just don’t look tall enough.

    Mustang revived.

Thought the saddle was a bit ‘little girl’ and ‘new’ so found an alternate covering I also found an old rusted sissy bar instead of the nice shiny one. Will update once the two are together.

Rat Rod Bikes Build Off #14?

I’ve got an image in my head, an image on paper but need to put the two together and find a frame to suit the geometry.

Irrigation pipe? That’s gonna be interesting.

One peice crank to square taper.

I recently converted a bike using the truvativ adaptor. Had a devil of a time getting the adaptor in, probably due to the frame having been powder coated and the adaptor fits a lot deeper than a one piece bearing cup. Once it was fitted the BB screwed in quite easily.

    Mustang revived.

Thanks Luke. I ferreted around some more and found it is a 22.2mm post by check with the post off my other build. Made me think, that’s also the diameter of some handlebars so found some that will fit. Not sure if it will be strong enough though. It is a fairly long frame, top tube is around...

    Mustang revived.

Speedwell is an Aussie brand from way back. They are a bit of a classic here. This one I picked up from a local guy along with 5 other vintage bikes. The frame is fairly rusty, it still solid as far as I can tell, just years in the rain I guess. Banana seats aren’t cheap to come by , but...

Rat Rod Bikes Build Off #14?

Out of interest, which class would something like Falstaffs Ratillac fit into? Basic frame/fork but a lot of fabrication style work in add ons. What if he had made the fibreglass kit from scratch, would that change it? Current plan is dressing up a basic frame with a fair in kit of sorts...

Rat Rod Bikes Build Off #14?

I’m keen. Got an idea/theme to work on and starting to work up designs etc - but really should be finishing other things first. I’m considering two builds if the rules head that way. Both builds based on the one theme too, one a construct/fabricate and the other a paint and accessories job.

Too Cold to work on bikes

Wow! I can’t fathom the weather being so cold your stuff won’t work. Coldest it gets around here is that it’s uncomfortable to be outside without covering either your hands or your head (both isn’t necessary) and not usually during the middle of the day when it’s 15-17C. On the other hand, much...

    Stretch-e

I’ve had some time to play with this. It’s now rideable with the new bars and the motor fitted. Took some filing of the existing brackets to fit it, and currently (pun intended) the battery is held in place with zip ties. Need to tidy up the bars and paint and route the cables neatly. Test...

    Stepping back in time

Yes. Chrome was all fairly well pitted. We lived beside saltwater and everything got rusty. I decided to just spray in silver, matches the alloy rims a bit better - and cheaper. Hopefully I can find someone local with a thread tap for the forks. Otherwise I might have to cut a bit out and re-weld

    Stepping back in time

after a very long time I finally got started reassembling the bike I got when I was 10yo. I sandblasted the frame about 15years ago and bought a new saddle. Built a wheel and fitted some tyres about 6-7 years ago, then finally painted it a few months ago. I rescued it from one of dad’s shed...

Frankly my Deere, I don't give a John! (Tractor Trike. MBBO Class 2)

Might be a fair wait in Australia. Not many furnaces anywhere in my experience. We don’t do heating very well here - it’s all about keeping cool.

Frankly my Deere, I don't give a John! (Tractor Trike. MBBO Class 2)

Yeah. It’s a tad warm there! We’ve been copping it a bit too, but being on the coast it isn’t as hot, but ridiculously humid. Working in this weather is not fun.

No pics, but the pedal tractor at my folks place (easy 60-70years old) uses a u-joint I think.

I made one with washers only too. like he says in the video, washers only don’t centre the cups properly.
