Need help finding wide 24” rims

Some of the trials bike companies might get real close to 50mm. I used to run Echo TRs on my bikes when I did that sort of thing.

The stupidest 10 speed in the world.

Me too a little. There is something uniquely satisfying pulling one out of an old shed or basement though. I like getting the stories...who's bike it was and where it's been. It's also a treat to rehab an old bike and send the pictures back to the folks you got it from. I'm glad there are bike...

Macro Monday! Show that zoomed-in detail shot ON MONDAY

From the cover of the book "101 Things to do with a Bike" published 1961 rescued from the library discards.

    Old road race bike

I did try to expand the picture to see what was happening with the drop-outs, but the resolution wasn't great. I knew it was older...the head tube angle looks pretty slack, yes?

    My Christmas present.

Proving once, and for all time, that New Years' resolutions are for suckers! Merry Christmas everyone.

Have to try this for myself...first Rat

Bars are original to the bike, the red 1959 Murray. I really likes how close they mirror the lines of the front rack (from a '66 Hercules 3 speed). The light is off a mid 70s Columbia Tourist, and works like new!

Got some stitching up to do, but it should sit pretty much the way it's dressed now. The profile of the tires is tall with straight side walls and may not clear the fenders, but I'll try to tweak them before I make a change.

    Can't find a comfortable seat

Don’t jump to buy a saddle because it’s marketed with the name “comfort “. The trick to the fit is to get the measurements for your anatomy and match it to a saddle that supports you at your sit bones. Extra padding in the wrong place is a step backwards. Ever have your sock kind of bunched up...

What have you been riding lately?

It's the bike from my avatar pic ( yes it's a real snap)....not so new anymore....she's named The Great White Buffalo

    Can't find a comfortable seat

Specialized dealers used to do saddle fitting in shop. You might call around to see if it's still a service they offer. Here's a video with a "do it at home" method / After you determine width, set tilt with a level, or just a tiny bit lower at the nose. WTB saddles have always been good to me.

Here's an honest question for you all.... I've sanded the fenders down part way to a dull red ( the pin striping is almost entirely gone). I could rub them down with linseed oil for a good result, or shoot them with a black rust reformer rattle can. I probably prefer the oil treatment for the...

    Cargo Bike

Throwing a 60lb recliner on the bed is one of many ways to keep it from getting too bouncy. I like your "full speed ahead" approach!

Might as well use up the rest of those zip-ties on it ….make it good and strong!

Have to try this for myself...first Rat

I went out for a pick to get an old Hercules, but came home with a couple of old balloon tire bikes. At first my plan had been to do a klunker-cruiser, but my time browsing here has turned me in another direction. I believe I can get this done with spares and a single roadside parts donor ( a...

    Personal snow bike trail

I tried for one season to keep a short 1 mile loop open here in CT on private land, I think it lasted until mid January when we got 10" of dry sugary snow. You really are bound by what the weather lets you get done. You've built an awesome base though....good on you. I know a couple of places...

    Chain advice?

I've always preferred riveting my chain instead of using master links. Shimano chains always came with break-away pins that made the job super easy (they are specific to the chain width, so do your homework). That said, if the other components of the drivetrain are undamaged, and the...

    Blade fork

Following up to Silverking….you might be able to limit the torsional flex a little bit by just using extra wide flanged nuts on the axles (inside and out). Never hurts to double check spoke tension too.
