What have you been riding lately?

A Sunn'y early evening ride at my new local spot (5 minutes away from my place):

    Tips n Trix

I didn't have the right tool for installing self extracting crank bolts. So I made one out of a keyring.

    I finally got it mounted:

    Trek Singletrack 950

Thanks :) I forgot to reply to this post. But better late than never, right? It's 1x7 with a 32t chainring. I just took off the 42t (which was worn out), the granny (which I didn't need), and the front derailleur. I only use this bike for grocery runs, and relaxing joyrides around the area. So...

Lets See Those 26" BMX Styled Cruiser Builds

Mtb with a bit of BMX flavour thrown in. I built this one last year so I could have a decent, but relaxed ride up at my summer house. It rides great, and is perfect for grocery runs and chill rides to the beach, the port, and my secret relaxy-spot.

    Scrap pile rescue

The handle is commonly seen on old city/commuter bikes around here. Most mid-century appartment buildings have a space for bikes in the basement. And a lot of people living in the suburbs ride their bike to the nearest station, bring it on the train, and ride to their workplace. So before there...

    Scrap pile rescue

From what I've found on google I guesstimate it to be an early to mid 50's model. Other than feeling, and sounding dry the headset seems to be okay. So hopefully all it needs is a good cleaning and some fresh grease. If not I'll have to work something out in the creative workshop...

    Scrap pile rescue

"That's a really cool bike" was just what I thought, when I spotted it. The frame seems to be well made. And I like the patina. So I'm thinking of giving it a citric acid bath to get rid of the rust, and either giving it a light clear coat or a BLO treatment to prevent further rusting. Other...

    Scrap pile rescue

The train station that I work out of is doing its annual clearout if the bike parking areas - Bikes are marked with tape. And if the tape isn't removed within X amout of time, the bike gets scrapped. On my way home Thursday I went by the scrap pile, and something interesting caught my eye. I...

How do you guys bust rust this bad?

A citric acid bath could be a good way to get rid of the rust. It might even free up the seatpost if you leave it in long enough.

Tires? Who do we like to replace OEM tires?

I like how Billy Bonkers look on my Dyno:

Show me your older 26" mtb, turned modern day gravel grinder.

Thanks! If the weather forecast holds, the purple ring will happen in a day or two. I might have to bring a bucket of warm water to the back yard workshop, though, to keep me fingers from freezing.

1995 'Sunn Vertik 2, OG and a couple of rebuilds later: 1994 Wheeler 9800, parts bin build gone weight-weenie: Trek 950, as found, and turned into the summer house cruiser:

    What's your "go-to" bike?

As in "Not a Harley. But pretty much the same thing, only far more dependable, and probably much cheaper as well"? ;) :)

    What's your "go-to" bike?

My winter got-to this year will most likely be a rebuild of this MIT framekit (no-name, but reasonably light, and rides nice) with as many parts from the stash as possible: So far I'm thinking blue rims, blue BMX stem, moto or BMX cruiser bars, front rack or clickfix+waterproof bag, either...

    What's your "go-to" bike?

My go-to is my Wheeler 9800. It's such a blast to ride! It will be going in the attic for storage soon, though, as the city uses a lot of road salt during the winter. And steel frames no likey salt...
