Why I like 2 sets of brakes ...

I ride fast, but careful - Always a finger on each brake, I look well ahead, wear hi-vis yellow gloves etc. But sometimes that isn't enough. That's when good brakes, my fast reflexes (which have earned me the nickname Ninja), and the ability to do an endo turn with a locked front wheel come in...

Why I like 2 sets of brakes ...

Or when your are going into an intersection, at speed, and a driver doesn't check her side-view mirror before turning right. If not for 2 well tuned v-brakes, and my bike-handling abilities, my ride home from work could have done me a lot worse than a pedal bite on the shin (the car lost its...

What have you been riding lately?

The roads are finally salt free, so the Wheeler is back in rotation.

What have you been riding lately?

I added fenders to my Schwinn Moab to make it more commuter friendly. I'll have to change the tyres as well; Both to gain some clearance, and because the Rapid Robs don't like cornering on cold/wet/greasy asphalt (as I found out this morning). I have a set of 1.75" Michelin Country Rock lying...

The anti-klunk? (Show us your urban bombers!)

The weather was quite nice today - cold, but dry and sunny (the clouds had just come in when I took the pics). So I took the Wheeler for an afternoon spin by the harbour. A family of swans came sailing by as I was hanging out and taking pics. I see them quite often at this particular spot.

    Lets see your winter bike.

Winters around here are mild, and wet. And the city salts the streets a lot so any snow turns to slush very quickly, and steel frames are best kept indoors. This year I'll be riding this aluminium Schwinn Moab that I got for a steal. I replaced the saddle and stem with a Flite ti and a...

    1998 Schwinn Moab 1

Thanks! Other than the price, the fork was a big plus for me; On a commuter there is no need for suspension, plus it's lighter, it looks better, and I won't have to deal with servicing a 20+ years old Rockshox.

    1998 Schwinn Moab 1

This year's winter bike, which I got at a great price from the original owner. Right after I brought it home: Flipped stem + Flite ti: 3T stem/bars + Ritchey grips

The anti-klunk? (Show us your urban bombers!)

Today was a good day! I finally got a blue Flite in good condition for my Wheeler :D:cool: I also picked up this '98 Schwinn Moab 1 to use as my winter bike. I got it at a great price from the original owner who has taken good care of it, and got it tuned up last year. So other than...

    1995 Sunn Vertik 2

I went up to my family's summer house this weekend to get the rest of the bike, and some tools home. Now I know how I'll be spending my spare winter evenings :D

    1995 Sunn Vertik 2

This project has been stranded for the past 4 months, because finding a headset that fits the 27mm. cone on the fork was harder than expected. But finally one popped up in a retro mtb group, I'm in on the Facebook. And it's shiny STX

Drinking wine, and listening to Queen while changing brake pads and adjusting gears - not at all a bad way to spend a Saturday evening :D
