Once again my first proper bike has begun to look and feel a bit too ratty. And this time I have decided to do a complete rebuild. So I thought I would make a thread here to document the process. The project will most likely cost way more than the bike is worth. But you can't put a price on...

Wheeler 9800. Most likely Tange Prestige tubing. The only high end parts on it yet are the XTR derailleur/shifter, and the titanium stem. But I plan on upgrading the rest piece by piece, whenever I can find something nice on the cheap. The goal is to get it under 10 kg.

My family's summer house (where I'll be spending the next three weeks :) ). My grandparents bought it back in the 70's, so I've been coming here my whole life. My mum inherited it, and recently passed it along to me and my sister - that way we won't have to pay inheritance tax when her time...

"New" cranks and derailleurs for my Sunn. They came off of this Trek, which I got on the cheap, and am planning to make a project out of (right now I'm thinking 700c wheels and drops)

Funny - I actually prefer the look of it like this. Long, low, and fast. Also, on a mountainbike I prefer to have the bars as low as possible. That semi-upright riding position you get with taller bars doesn't sit well with my back and shoulders.

I scored a Profile titanium stem yesterday. Much better than the too modern 3T from the parts bin :cool:
