    Firewing 1953 Columbia 3 Star DeLuxe (2nd) - 3/15 TRADED

Re: FireWing 53 Columbia 3 Star-6/16 FullMocks w/PaintedSkirts Nice job with the skirts and I really like how they match the tires, spokes, and especially the light casing on the front fender! Very cool!

*Silent Assassin* - Rear Fender Added

After careful deliberation, I've decided to go with.... Option #1 With that, I'll likely go with the 26x2.35 Solanas both front and rear. However, I re-visited classic-cycle.de and noticed they have street hog tires in 2.35 as well as 2.40. I'm probably looking at 50mm tire when inflated...

*Silent Assassin* - Rear Fender Added

I revisited the stance of the bike, and I'm probably better off running a 26" tire instead of a 24" strictly for ground clearance purposes. The fenders definitely add to the overall image I'm looking for but reduces the kind of clearance I need to run a 3" wide wheel. I really like the look of...

Good to hear from you again Dr. T and thanks for the thumbs up! You definitely hit the nail on the head and read into what I planned on using for the crank arms. Shorter ones is definitely the route I'm going! Initially, I planned on using a 22T offset rear spocket with a Nexus 3-speed for...

*Silent Assassin* - Rear Fender Added

Since I've decided to go with fenders for this build, there has been a change of plan for wheels & tires. I will go with a 24x3 setup for tires front and back - either the white wall thick bricks, fatti-o's, or street hogs. I'm not confident that I'll have the clearance to use the wide...

Thanks! 8) LOW is the route to go!

I appreciate the thumbs up! Now, I really need to key in on a wheel & tire combo that will work with the fenders.

*Silent Assassin* - Rear Fender Added

There are mounting points or holes at the base of the steer tube as well as the bottom holes of the black metal. I just wanted to see what the fenders look like with the frame and did not want to waste too much time bolting the fenders to those mounting points. Once the I have the wheels and...

I think you've been inside my brain because that's definitely a thought I've had regarding the larger wheels & tire combo, and I appreciate the fact that you've come out said it. I also agree with the rear fender needing to have more uniformity with the one in the front.

Thanks a lot! I'm having a strong lean towards this set from choppersus.com: 23" wide with a 16" pullback...

*Silent Assassin* - Rear Fender Added

Here's a quick mock-up with the fenders. My initial concern with the fenders is that they'll limit the wheel and tire size I'm able to use, and that they may draw too much attention away from the tires themselves. I'm also having reservations about the rear truss rods in that they could...

From what I'm seeing advertised by The Cruiser Shop, I will have to order the 144 spoke silver hoops and paint them with Duplicolor Black Shadow. Hopefully, they'll have black spokes and hubs in stock as well. I'll likely call them to place an order this weekend.

*Silent Assassin* - Rear Fender Added

I could be wrong, but my initial thoughts are inclined to believe that the rear will spring just a little since the truss rods are not bolted in the area where the rear axle will go. The only way I'll find out for sure is when I have everything in place to do a test drive. Even if it doesn't...

*Silent Assassin* - Rear Fender Added

Over the last couple of days, I've been working on a mounting configuration for the double spring fork hoop. It now has been put together, and I was able to take photos earlier today. I was lucky enough to find two identical Schwinn truss rod clamps in the shed and U-bolted them to the seat...

    Firewing 1953 Columbia 3 Star DeLuxe (2nd) - 3/15 TRADED

Re: FireWing 53 Columbia 3 Star-6/10 Ramshorn Question?? I say expose the chrome on the bars but age them just enough to compliment the springs and sprocket under the seat. I also like the idea of leather for the grips.
