What are two things you never have enough of when doing builds?

Time and money of course... That's a given... ;) For builds, I'm always missing the little trinket parts like seat or cable clamps or the oddball hardware item that actually fits whatever I'm working with... For bikes I'm working on just to get up and running, axle cones are the one item I...

    1947 Kar-bike, pedal car.

I've had one of these for some time now and have been interested in finding out more about it too. I've seen a couple different frame designs for them. Here's a link to the E.J. Weller patent: http://www.google.com/patents/USD127915 Edit: Never knew these were called Kar-Bikes! A google...

GT or Dyno or ? Please help ID this BMX bicycle...

Chainguard tabs and kickstand bracket behind the BB shell almost make me think this is a department store bike of some type. (GT did go mass-market for a short period of time so it very well could be from them) The GT spider and Dyno stem are from an early to mid 1990's bike.

Bicycle Swap and Show in Butler, Pa.

I made it up there for the first time since 1997. Nice little fun show! Also a good excuse to visit Bicycle Heaven in Pittsburgh. That place is incredible!

did NOT buy it for the frame!

Shimano NX01. As far as I know, they are still available. Might look neat on my next build-off bike!

    Odd part

I believe that was a dropout stiffener for the bikes with index shifting.

new trek 6500 i picked up in a wierd color

Trek would occasionally do color changes later in the model year.. A good example would be my 1999 Trek 820 in Dragonfly Green. This color was dropped in September of 1998 after the new 99' catalogs were already printed. It was replaced by black or inkwell blue if I remember correctly and the...

    Trek 800 mountain track

1998 model... Nice score on the USA made frame. 800's were only made in Wisconsin for a short period of time until they went back overseas. Crank should be OK. The teeth were cut like that to make shifting quicker.

    Essential Bike Tools

One of the "cheapies" runs $8-$12. Breaking and reinstalling a chain takes a couple minutes and the tool makes it incredibly easy. The ease of the job and the time saved makes even the more expensive ones worth every penny.

Trexlertown Pa. Swap 10/5...what are you bringing?

Couple nice tidbits being mentioned about next year's swaps at the firehouse... They're doing the spring show again next year. It will be the same weekend as the spring Velodrome swap. The big news is that they're going to try and make the fall swap a weekend event starting Friday night and...

Trexlertown Pa. Swap 10/5...what are you bringing?

Haven't missed this one since 1992 so I should be there again... Wasn't going to set up but I have quite a few bikes that I've been falling over all summer. I'll never get to them so they need to go to a better home. One is a clean ladies JC Penney 5 speed bike with a rear disc brake.

    "I WISH YOU SOLD ________"

I'm on board with tires too, Especially a big slik with raised white letters. :) A frame would be nice... Schwinn DX style with the pre-war geometry and bottom bracket height. Produce it in 3 sizes. 18" , 20" and 22". May as well offer it with a couple dropout spacing widths too. One for single...

    Schwinn 27" s-6 wheel question

Schwinn kept throwing us curve balls with tire sizes right up to their bankruptcy late in 1992. The Miradas and Frontiers from around 1991 used a difficult to find (at the time) 26 x 1-1/2 (650B) tire size. Never really got an explanation about that either. I'm surprised they didn't try the...

    Schwinn 27" s-6 wheel question

26" S-6 was special size, 27" S-6 like on a Suburban, can use a standard 27 x 1-1/4" tire no problem. Same rim as a Varsity or Continental. I've changed hundreds of them over the years. I like the slightly larger 27 x 1-3/8" but watch your fender clearances with those. They're a little close.

    Defiance

I'm turning into a real slacker when it comes to getting pictures of this bike. I've been spending too much time riding it! I even forgot my mandatory picture with a train in the background. Had to snap a quick one this evening...

    1995 Schwinn Cruiser Classic questions

1995 was a good year for Schwinn bikes. They had new owners and fresh money behind them. They were just getting started at revamping their image and had some nice bikes available and nicer ones on the way. They had a huge line up of classic cruisers and in all their literature they were bragging...
