I took her all the way apart tonight. Given the age it really is in pretty good shape, I had to cut or break two screws to get the rear fender off and the bottom bracket bearing cages are wrecked. So far the parts I have had to add to this project are pretty minimal. I degreased and washed...

    "Helen Wheels" : ...Farewell, Good Summer...pg 7

It's like, and in many respects superior, to ArmourAll. The exterior plastics on my '03 Mustang look showroom fresh and I've been using 303 on it since it was new. I tend to use ArmourAll on my interior stuff and Formula 303 on exterior plastics, rubber, etc. It's pricey stuff, but a little...

Success! I managed to get the stem loose and started cleaning the struts using what I think remember as @OddJob's technique of scrubbing with aluminum foil dipped in salt water. Here's a before and after picture: The cleaning took me about 40 minutes and when I was all done I rewarded my...

I finally got a chance to get back to the bike this weekend so I thought I would tear down the headset and clean up the chrome on the struts, but alas there was no progress to be made. The stem won't budge. I have pulled the stem bolt and shot WD40 down the hole. I will see if it moves tonight.

@OddJob I remember that build from this past winter. It came out looking pretty sweet, like a bike that was both well used and loved. One of the things I like about the idea of car wax is that it's a little more authentic; I remember waxing my bike as a kid.

More along the lines of an automotive paste wax like Simoniz or Turtlewax

That's sort of my strategy on this one. Anywhere I decide to stop I should be able to call it done. The plan is to clean it up, refine it a little, maybe clean up the chrome, and add any parts I need to make it street legal here (lights, reflectors, horn or bell). I'm torn between trying BLO...

I saw this bike two weeks ago hanging from the ceiling of an antique shop. I broke down and bought it last Saturday. The bike appeared to be reasonably complete so it wasn't going to break the bank getting parts to get it running. The bike was made by Sunshine Waterloo Company in Waterloo...

    Spring Spare Time

Some real outside the box solutions here. I love the simplicity of the tensioner and reversing the hub like that is pretty ingenious too. re the 2 speeds, did you rebuild the hub after welding to it? It's possible that you have gummed up oil from the heat jamming the pawls.

@OddJob I don't think I'm going to make it. I went down a rabbit hole that started with buying a black anodized front wheel from my LBS because it was the only 16" wheel they had. Next thing I knew I was going to have to replace all the shiny new chrome I bought with black and I haven't made a...

I just received a shiny new Shimano Nexus 3 speed coaster hub. Does anyone know if the 70's era Shimano 3 speed bell crank and shifter will work on the new hub or am I going to have to hunt down even more parts?

Parts have been trickling in and I just received something really going to help complete the build: Now I can work without mittens.

That looks great. The vinyl decals give it a really polished look.

    Weird 10 speed for $50.

It appears to have a cottered crank. Folks my way seem to think that adds nostalgia value but to me it's a sign of the lowest quality 10 speeds. On the other hand it's hard to spend less than $50 on a complete bike. It's a good looking frame and the paint looks good. I do like the chrome detail...

    Class 2 - Silver Angel

I've been researching vinyl decals for my build. You can typically source something locally from a sign making shop. @Glen, I'm sure if you gave them the artwork for you Silver Angel logo they could whip up a head badge decal or something.
