If I posted the stinkhorn mushrooms that sprung up a couple autumns back, it would be censored. Feed the rabbits some carrots and they follow you around.

No, I've been working on other stuff and not as much as I should, either. I've been working around the house, building a house-warming gift for my middle sister in between the constant rain or deer flies (which I'll take over the West coast's drought), and I'm a little depressed lately, so I'm...

I think that's the harbinger of a Biblical plague or someone's been experimenting with radiation to grow bigger crops.

Turtles have been laying eggs all over the place lately. I think this one was looking for a spot. We have a small warren of rabbits under a Japanese maple in front. They're pretty used to us and the adults will even walk to us, though they stay at least an arm's reach away. Saved one of the...

Just saw the post about header wrap. If you want something that is closer to the right size to fit truss rods, you might want to check out Techflex. You'll have to hunt through their distributors a bit depending on what you're looking for as, annoyingly, they don't all carry the full range of...

    Head badge rivets

Check McMaster-Carr—they're the best. Usually one of the cheaper vendors, have all kinds of amazing stuff, and actual engineering information on whatever it is you're looking for, so there's a lot less guesswork.

The whole back end might end up too high, but it's a matter of function. Not that I expect to put much weight on the backrest. My goal is to get the windshield and fairing top curves to look like they could be part of a continuous arc. The fairing will house a lot of the electronics for the...

What's the difference in radius between a 26" fender and 700c tire? Here you are. I traced the outline box that will conceal a bunch of the wiring based on an old 26" fender and made sure to err on the side of leaving more material than I need since it's easier to remeasure and recut than put...

That wood looks like birch plywood to me, but I'm not 100% sure.

    Painting saddle?

I've painted a Brooks B68 (red), B17 and matching leather backrest I just made, and a Cardiff version of a B17 (turquoise) using Angelus leather paint. It's easy and is probably as durable as a factory job. A small bottle will easily take care of a saddle, maybe even three. You'll want to remove...

Just a couple more pits to fill to finish fairing the fairing. Also sewed up the backrest and painted it. First one I did came out better. Not sure where I went a little wrong on this one, but it's slightly baggy on one corner.

    Flywheel bicycles

I think we're using alternate definitions of charging. When I use "charging", I'm referring to spinning the flywheel up so that you can harvest its energy later, like with a battery. The flywheel will also resist turning and leaning, though it will certainly be easy to keep you balance.

    Flywheel bicycles

I'm not sure if you posted that in refutation or agreement, but that's essentially what I'm saying. You'd charge the flywheel under braking so that you could use its captured energy to accelerate after. As for the follow up to the second quote, I'm not sure how they're related. It would depend...

I actually got the migraine BEFORE the kid party, too. It was a mild one, though, otherwise I'd have been knocked down for a day. The gifts I got were hits, at least.

Migraine and a friend's kid's birthday party didn't completely stop me from getting something done. Closed cell cushion and leather for the back rest.

    Flywheel bicycles

You're only going to want to engage the flywheel to charge it up under braking as that's how it will work. For the drag it would create under pedaling it would really only work for accelerating after a stop. If that's what you're looking for, it should work well. If you're going to pair it with...

It works! No pic as I had to add some more filler, but melting ABS in acetone works really well. For thicker blobs of ABS goop, you might have to give it 24 hrs. As a note, make sure you know it's ABS. I threw a couple small test pieces in that I wasn't sure if it was ABS or HDPE. It was the...

I'll see how it cures, but I'm really impressed so far with melting ABS plastic in acetone to create a body filler. I used scrap cut-offs and the ends of weld rods that were too short to use mixed in a glass jar. Sanded the base with 80-grit to give it some tooth before applying it with a metal...

Rant: why I have trouble supporting the LBS

Maybe there's some extra charge for the box size at the border that their calculator didn't pick up on? I've got the pretty similar Nitto Albatross on USAAF and they're really nice.
