    The Crusty Pistachio

Thank you. I really wanted the red fork to work. But it just didn’t do it for me. Also this bike has been a go to that I can lock up when I go out and not be so hyper concerned about. Considering the fork was more than double the cost of the frame, it kinda took away from that. I considered a...

    The Crusty Pistachio

Found an hour or so today to get some work done. Pulled the rear wheel, eyeballed chain line (this drum hub was originally 5 speed, the axle was trimmed for single), tore the wheel down, and got the SA hub laced in. Will true and tension soon. Happy to get to use the crusty black Arayas as I...

    The Crusty Pistachio

So, definitely not as cool, but swapped the fork back, tire mounted, grips, brake levers, and brake installed. I tried gold, red, and blue brakes, but in the end silver won for my eye. Blue cable housing as it was already cut and is faded a bit. Next weekend I’ll get in some more time and start...

    MCS MagnaCruise update

Awesome! Looks great man. Yours is only the second I’ve seen with the full frame decals on the forks. Curious to the serial? How do you get. ‘79? I know less then 900 we’re made between ‘79-‘82 Dig the mix color brakes. 1020’s or 890’s up front? The forks sit low to the wheel

    The Crusty Pistachio

After getting the red fork on that frame, I gotta say, I’m not digging it. The contrast is too much and the paint is too nice on the fork. I do still want to convert the bike to hand brakes though, so I’ll move forward with a different idea. I’ve been trying to have bikes I have doubles of with...

    The Crusty Pistachio

Was able to get a little work done this morning. First thing was to shave the little nub off the cable hanger as the cut out on the steerer was down the front side of this fork, not the rear. Was considering using a different stem. But I think this faded red one will match up kinda decent...

Thanks. I agree that Champion is epic! The chrome Tange TX 1200 forks will be goin back in the pile of forks for now.

    The Crusty Pistachio

As I’ve been meaning to do a rebuild on this frame, figured what better motivation then to throw my hat in the ring for the build off. 1980ish Laguna Cruiser. Since my original build on it, I’ve referred to it as the Pistachio. Thus the title name. I’ve made some small changes since the...

What’s the serial number? How bad of a repair? I’m not aware of repop decals for the top tube, but I believe the downtube ones are around. Different countries got different models (labeled the same) with or without canti tabs and or cable routing for internal hubs. I’d guess yours may have come...

Let's see those Kona HumuHumu & Kona A'Ha

I’m honestly surprised it hasn’t sold. I don’t think the price is bad at all. For how many were made it’s kinda astonishing more don’t pop up. If it was a large, I woulda hit the buy it now button without a thought.

Oh yea. Hey man. Thank you. I just swapped the fork from the black with canti mounts for the chrome one. I had another project the black fork worked better for.

Lacing a 32 hole hub to a 36 hole rim

You can absolutely and reliably lace a 32 hole hub to a 36 hole rim. You just have to skip every 9th hole. And figuring out the spoke lengths is a headache because you’ll have multiple lengths. I personally haven’t done it, but a buddy has. I can talk to him on it. Also a product like what...

    Cook Brothers current value

Matter of opinion I guess. I see it as art. You can have a chance to own the original, or you can by a replica or fake. But just like art, those who know, know. It’s not like they’re making any more of them. Demand is high, so prices follow. There really is only a small pool of folks who...
