    Bones Bomber

Thanks, Luke. Hoping to finish this one off before I head off to Australia in early Feb. Will be in Sydney and Melbourne.

    Bones Bomber

Sure thing, MIGZ. I got it from these guys. http://www.ebay.com/usr/rockstarprint Installing the wrap was certainly faster than painting it, but this is an impossible task without a blow dryer, and maybe a 3rd hand. Seriously, I couldn't take any pictures during the install because both...

    Bones Bomber

This build has been off and on for a bit, but now I think I have it all sorted out. It will be pretty quick - not a lot of stripping or rust removal here. I think I might even enter it in the Rat Rod Bikes winter build off. This is a tribute bike to Powell Peralta and The Bones Brigade - it...

    Jayne - 1954 Schwinn Hornet

Pretty familiar with the Watermelon Pink. I have a couple 50mm Felt wheels in Watermelon Pink, just hanging in the garage... Hmm...

    Jayne - 1954 Schwinn Hornet

This is going to be a slow build, but I got the itch to work on something, and started in. This is a 1954 Schwinn Hornet that I picked up along with Skirt Chaser a few years back. The bike is 100% original, with the tank, fenders, rack, light, chain guard, etc. The chain guard and pedal are in...

    Epoxy primer over "vintage" paint

I agree, Jamie. Oddly this is the first vintage frame I have built that wasn't a complete rust bucket or previously painted with house paint - new territory for me.

    Epoxy primer over "vintage" paint

A few years back I purchased a complete 1953 Hornet girls bike. The thing had been garaged, so there is remarkably little rust. Unfortunately, there is some hardened black gunk on the frame that simply won't come off without damaging the paint, so I'm going to have to repaint it. I'm taking...

    (wbo) Iver The Terrible

Great lines on that frame. Good luck with the build!

Wanting to build a klunker. Need a Schwinn DX, preferably tall but if not I will make due.

You are looking for the Holy Grail of Klunkers - good luck!

Great looking build! Dig the purple look.

    Paint aluminum...

I like etching primer on aluminum, also not afraid of the 2K epoxy primers, but the key is to have a rough surface for either paint to stick to.

Thick Bricks on a prewar frame?

I've run that setup in the past, and only had to shim the front. The chain line was fine. You can shim some hubs - the Sturmey Archer kickback, for example, but most rear hubs don't offer shims. The best you can do is an offset cog.

    Bones Bomber

Mocked up the Bones Bomber, and took it for a shake down ride this morning. A couple observations: First, this is a kick ... bike to ride. It's big, brawny and while it's not technically a "fat bike", this thing eats up the bumps and ruts on the trail. That said, the gearing is a bit off. It's...

Sturmey Archer B2C vs Sachs Torpedo Duomatic

It's funny, there was a time when my bikes were single speed or 3 speed nexus, but now I only have one 3-speed, three kickbacks, and a couple single speeds.

Sturmey Archer B2C vs Sachs Torpedo Duomatic

I have a couple of the SA kickbacks. Yeah, they are a little tight in the hand, and even on the bike rack, but on the road, they spin just fine. Have had no problems with them yet.
