Custom Dale Earnhardt Sr. Cruiser from SSC

Great looking bike! What tires did you throw on there?

    how do you keep rust??

I think it depends on the look you are going for. I have cleared over rust before with a satin clear, and I think it looks fantastic, but clearly, each to their own on that. What I did to get rid of the dust and prep it was wipe down the bike with acetone, then layed down two coats of rattle...

    Roadie wheel & tire question

Yup, it's a decent wheel. Lightweight, deep section, and a spoke pattern that is supposed to be more "aero" - like the_undecider said, straight off a triathlon bike - though not many triathletes run the 650c wheels anymore. It should fit nicely on a middleweight frame. :113:

    26x2 tire on 26x3 wheel?

A 2" Thick Slick on a 4" rim has the look you are trying to get. Be careful - if you can't get the bead seated, it will sound like a .50 cal gun going off in your garage with the tube pops...

A Monark Type II Fork, a post-war DX frame and the wobblies

Hey all. I have been building up a street going klunker, and installed some of the new Monark Type II forks on it to get the right look and comfort I was looking for. I think it looks great, but the handling is just... bad. I mean, it's impossible to ride it no-hands, and sharp turns are more...

Radial (spiral) lacing or rear wheel?

Jobst Brandt wrote a great book about wheels, and the whys and hows of lacing patterns, etc. Radial wheels with low spoke counts primarily save weight. Spokes are not aerodynamic - if you want fast wheels, you get deep rims. There are radial spoke patterns for rear wheels that you can use...

    types of rattle can paint

Most rattle can paints simply suck. That said, I had some aluminum rims that I painted with a 2K epoxy primer, and then hit with Krylon paint and satin clear, and have been pretty happy with the durability. For my next frame project I will use an 2K epoxy primer followed by a 1K top coat and...

    Pinkie - 1952 DX

Well, she is just about done, so this will be a long update. One of the things I tried to do with this build was use as many modern components as I could get away with, while still offering up a nod to the old school. I started this with a Tange headset. Of course, we all know those will not...

    Phantasm - 1953 Schwinn B6

I figured I would give an update on this one. Not long after my last post, I applied some clear coat to what I thought was cured paint on the tank and chain guard, and it just came right up in an epic orange peel. A day after that, a strong wind blew down my bike stand with the frame in it...

    Pinkie - 1952 DX

I have been working on her, but have had problems posting to the forum with my iPhone, but I should have some pictures uploaded in the next day or so. I started fitting parts, got the BMX cranks installed, wheels painted and build up (still need to tension and true them), and only have a few...

    Pinkie - 1952 DX

My daughter has been riding The Bishop (my BB07) bike for a while now, and when I decided to sell that (well, give it away in exchange for a donation to a charity), she convinced me that she needed a new bike. She's 17, so it needed to be a little girly, but not that girly. I started with a...

    Sealing dusty rust

For Bar Fly, I washed it, wiped it down with acetone, then did a coat of satin clear followed by a coat of matte clear. Turned out great!

Yup, out here in Livermore, CA, Altamont Beer Works brews a beer called Hella Hoppy. Why? Because it's hella hoppy!

Great build, bean. One of my favorites.

    VOTE HERE! - TRADITIONAL

Wow, what a selection of bikes. I had my favorites during the build, but one bike jumped out at me during the voting, and I made a last minute switch. That's the great thing about the competition - there is always the opportunity for someone to surprise you at the last minute. I'll be rooting...
