    Thanks for the comments...thanks for the seat advice wildcat...I was actually looking at the seat yesterday and wondering if taking off the front spring would work...now that you showed me that it does...I am on it!!!! Also the idea about matching grips is GREAT !!!!! Now ...does anyone know...

    After a long delay, finally got the Speed Master together and road tested. I am using some 700c tires I had on hand but they are too tall for the fenders...I will get different tires because I really want the peaked fenders on the bike. I also have to mess with the shifter cable for a cleaner...

    While still trying to decide ( would love some opinions from readers) as what color, if any, to make the wheels and tires on the SPEED MASTER (after blacking out the hubs)......and waiting for the white paint for the darts on the ROAD MASTER to cure before masking.......I got the ROAD MASTER...

    here is the Speed Master with a 700c peaked rim...I want to black out the hubs but not sure what to do with the wheels and tire color Got the white on the Road Master and some seat parts painted satin black

    So....here we go...Bike #1 was supposed to be in this years build off but I had to pull out because I knew I would not meet the deadline. This is a 1942? CWC Speed Master serial # A04410. This is a lightweight (my only one) with blacked out parts. I plan on a complete cleaning followed by clear...

    Thought I was going to be able to pull this build off but was sick for about 2 weeks and just have too many other things to get done at this time......so I am pulling out....when I finally do get to this bike I will post the build...good luck to all other builders...the entrants are incredible...

    WOW....uncovering the original paint under all that "patina" is a very tedious and time consuming process....but I am very excited with the rich maroon color that is showing up...here are a few pics of the progress ALL TORN DOWN got my polishing compound and super fine steel wool ready Cool...

    I think since you found it, you should build it.....give the frame a good cleaning with super fine steel wool and some polishing compound.....then clear coat it and add any parts you want to personalize the bike to your taste....then ride the crap out of it !!!!!!!!!!!!:D

    Thanks so much for those links Blackdiamond....that is the color I am starting to uncover under all the rust and dirt...wish it was that nice!!!! One more question for today: I see that in 41 parts were chromed....my bike being a 42 makes it a Wartime bike....what is the reason for the blacked...

    Thanks for all the encouragement !!!!!!! I want to keep as much as the old flavor as possible but modernize and make it a serious rider with lighter wheels and a 7speed...the only other change would be the saddle to something more comfy for long rides... Questions: Would anyone have any old...

    This will be my 3rd build off bike and am really excited to watch,learn and get hundreds of new ideas from all of the other awesome bikes we will see this year. My first build off was a 49 Schwinn heavy weight....the second was a 59 Columbia middle weight.....this year will be a 1942 CWC Speed...
