BAD NEWS: My Twisted Take on a Western Flyer Newsboy Special

i like it for the sheer weirdness of it. looks like something Dr Seuss would have ridden. the original was more peewee Herman.

    The Prowler

there's a formula for where the contact patch of the tire should be in relation to where an imaginary line through the neck hits the ground. the faster your going, the more important this is.

    The Prowler

some stainless is gummy-- for lack of a better adjective-- and it will just make the teeth on your tools glow and lose temper, but some stainless cuts, drills and welds like butter. i like to make anything i can out of stainless because i'm too lazy to clean chrome or carbon steel and it ends up...

    The Prowler

if it was a regular fork i'd just say stick a thick washer on each side of the hub and spread the fork, but i don't know if that springer will like that.

    The Prowler

you got shoulder bolts and the rockers and forks have different diameter holes, so the shoulder bolts only go in one way?

How to work out correct sissy bar and seat length

you need to get a banana made for a 26" bike. they don't make 24" seats and the 20's are just too short. maybe you can compensate with a laidback seat post? i used a 26" seat and it worked good. i did need to drill extra holes for it in the sissy bar though.

How do you spend your day off?

oh D@µn! Chevys and Schwinns! i would most definitely enjoy hanging at your place!

Stingrays Only! (Early scramblers and hurricanes too!)

i had this 24" fleet frame powder-coated and built it using the same parts I had used on the Mantaray frame. i definitely prefer the cantilever frame to the fastback style Mantaray. the fork is from a varsity

The electric mayhem (or how to screw with a perfectly good typhoon)

i am thinking about getting an electric hub motor for my bike since i have a heart condition. but i'm wondering if the rear motor will wheelie if i twist the throttle too fast? maybe a front motor would be safer?

Stingrays Only! (Early scramblers and hurricanes too!)

campus green mantaray frame from ebay i built and then foolishly sold.

    The Rusty Rocket Has Landed!

almost looks like something doc Brown would ride-- by the way, which bit is the flux capacitor? fantastically gorgeous and hideously beautiful art for sure.

    The Schwinn no one wanted

man i wish i could find another Schwinn 24" frame for a decent price. i like stingray bikes, but 20" is waaay too small for my fat b__t. and 26" bikes look weird to me with a 'nanner seat.

    Anybody else have a motorcycle?

i built this in 1994, and i'd love to keep it but between being too old for it and having a bad heart, i'm gonna have to sell it.

    American Rat

normally i would whine about hacking up Schwinn forks, but that springer is the coolest thing I've ever seen without a v-twin engine behind it. totally worth it. if you decide you don't like it, let me know please!

    Good From Afar

you should NEVER touch those rascals with anything less than a two-handed, white-knuckled grip. try to be gentle with them and they'll bite your arm off.

    How to bend Sissy Bars?

Use stainless steel tubing; no cracking and once polished it will look good forever. i always use stainless because i'm way too lazy to polish anything more than once.

Show me your cool little details! ~:The Little Things:~

just discovered this thread! some people have amazing imaginations and skills here! here's a few details from my beach bike: Hand made brake bracket welded to a varsity fork and powder coated: motorcycle brake lever and mirror, and shift lever of unknown origins: stainless lower section of...

    Show us them cars!

if i was aussie, i'd be a ford guy. i didn't know what the heck that bad @$$ thing Max was driving was, but i knew it was about the coolest thing i'd ever seen with those huge gas tanks where the trunk lid was supposed to be. i still want an aussie falcon.
