I've never made any truss rods. The ones on my Hawthorne are original. REALLY dig your bike by the way. I drooled over it the first time I saw the posting. As the saying goes, if you ever want to sell it...I'd even double your investment! :wink:

I have the same springer on my Hawthorne Deluxe. It seems to me the only thing you're missing is the truss rods and headlight: viewtopic.php?f=21&t=9558&p=99105&hilit=hawthorne#p99105

So here's the deal. I picked up this bike off the 'bay knowing it had been repainted. I've started trying to strip the top TWO layers of house paint whilst preserving what's left of the original paint, but it's going to be a long process and I'm not sure how well it's really going to turn out...

So this is the first of my pair of '55 Hawthorne's. I basically stripped them both and then built this one using the "rougher" parts. Cleaned off the dirt, but left the paint and chrome nice and patina-ed. Threw on some brown Quick Brick's and brown HW grips for a head to toe brown beauty...

Thanks everybody! She's definitely one of my favorites in the stable. The frame is actually completely chromed with coat of light green translucent paint (original). Some of it has rubbed off here and there, but as we all know that adds a little character.

Thanks BTF! I was pleasantly surprised at how light the frame was. I had to do some homework before I bought it, but it was worth every penny!

That would normally be a problem, but my in-laws live in the D, and after a few emails with the seller and phone call...
