    Rusted chain salvage.

Here’s a before and after of a fender strut going into and coming out of a lemon bath. This is the juice of about 8 lemons and then water to cover the parts (there are 4 struts in there) so about 4-1 water to lemon juice. But I leave the lemons in the bath so they continue to give off juice and...

    ‘66 Convertible

Here’s a glimpse of its glorious past... I pulled off the coaster break clip and underneath was a small patch of the original color. This thing was a gorgeous cherry red. I cleaned off as much of the grime and rust as I could at that spot and we see what is pretty much the best I’ll be able to...

    ‘66 Convertible

Wheels: Rear went on no issue. For the front one I did as suggested above and filed the post and with the help of my assistant/son was able to pull the forks open to get it in place. Paint: I cleaned everything and got a lot of surface rust off. Then used auto polish and if it holds, it’ll look...

    ‘66 Convertible

This is a simple soap and water cleaning (before I read all the paint advice). The pic is while still wet, so I’m hoping after a proper go at the cleaning and polish I’ll have something pretty good.

Excellent advice. Stand by for results or hysterical fail story.

    ‘66 Convertible

I just got this JC Penny 1966 Foremost Convertible this week. It hit me this morning that my first car was a 1966 Mustang Convertible. Creampuff. Both two years older than I am. I’ll be trying to do as much of a restore as I can but I know I’ll need to replace the wheels and tires which is a...

    1966 JC Penney Foremost Convertible

I got ahold of this 20" 1966(?) JC Penney Foremost Convertible and I'm considering a (partial) restore job on it. As far the paint goes I'll attempt to clean it up as much as possible but I don't want to repaint it. For one I like the patina look and also I'd never be able to recreate those...

    PPE for bike building

Ah yes... the mistakes you only make once. I have several of those. The good thing is if you survive the Once, you're home free. My most recent was attempting to put a solar filter on the eyepiece of a telescope instead of over the lens and pointing it at the sun. It burned a hole in the filter...

Bell..Formerly The most 'corrupt little city in the USA'...

Wow! I didn't think anyone actually lived in Bell. For those who don't know what sammymann is referring to, a few years ago there was a city council made up of some of the nastiest people you'd every hope to hit in your car, who fleeced the people of Bell, population 30,000, for Tens of millions...

    PPE for bike building

A simple face mask when painting. Purple boogers are weird but red boogers are scary. Definitely looking into a heavy duty apron. Or maybe one with dainty orange flowers like my grandma wore in the kitchen. She made great baked apples.

    PPE for bike building

In college my roommate and I built bunk beds. He was wearing sandals. During instal we dropped the top metal frame right on his foot from about 5 feet up. We both screamed. We both looked down and saw that the edge of the frame had landed straight across the top of his toes. But somehow...

    The Drunken Squid

Nearly every week we do a neighborhood bike ride with up to 20 adults and kids who live nearby. Very fun! I've been switching between bikes week-to-week and started taking a bike trailer for supplies and unforeseen events. Recently a buddy gave me an old cruiser. The bike itself is fine and...

MBBO Top 5 winners for 2020/2021

Congrats all around, big thanks to Crash and a HUGE thanks to the Ratrod community! This was my first real build. I stumbled on to the site and was inspired by everything I saw. I decided to jump into the competition with no plan and no experience. Bizarrely I was the first one done (but waited...

    White Widow

Like any fine art, it's worth exactly what someone is willing to pay for it. And the good news is you have a lot of crossover here: bike builders and collectors creepy spider Halloween types the Goth crowd Heavy Metal fans It goes on... White Widow

Fantastic! All of it. By the way, we have black widows in LA. When you finally see one, it's terrifying. They are unexpectedly small, which makes it worse, and you'll pick up a box and there it is - ready to kill your dog and make you really really sick.

Van Halen Frankenbike - The VH Cruiser

Done. This was quite an endeavor. And I must add, only my third ever build. I started with an old Aero frame and forks because the tank was perfect for the pattern. After that, all (bike) parts were scavenged except the tires seat and grips. I learned a lot, mostly about paint! And let's not...

Van Halen Frankenbike - The VH Cruiser

All pieces in place except... The crank didn’t clear the tremolo bar! So I hacked off the threaded part and just glued the thing to the chain guard, cause come on! Gorilla glue, so it should hold. A few last tweaks and we’ll be done. I hope?
