Gary both frames match and measure from bottom bracket to top of seat tube 17.75" the silver shield is a favorite of mine to ride it seems like a longer cockpit than my other frames. I guess I'm drawn to Manton & Smith bikes. I would like to find out where in Chicago the were produced.
Got an unknown frame off EBay last week died some internet looking and some comparisons on the welded frame to my known Manton & Smith welds, seat & chain stay bends were identical the web search turned up a link to Western Tire & Auto Stores Silver Shield brand.....wait a minute I have one of...
Just made another discovery! My first "old" bike a Western Tire and Auto Stores Silver Shield is the same frame as this one and it looks like they were Manton&Smith made...went from one M & S to three in the space of a week! My 1941 I believe.
I'm going with Manton & Smith based on a lot of web surfing and direct comparison to my M&S of bike the welds, seat stays and chain stays all match in bends now to figure what model it could have been and year.
Excellent I'm on the 2nd set of 3G wheels and 1 bike good stuff! Had a question on the wheels contacted there tech help on line....got an answer from Gary Silva himself. Now that's the way to treat your customers.
