Yet ANOTHER tangent.... custom 1910 style English "sloping top tube" Path Racer project.

Speaking of madman.... my other LONG Path Racer is call the "The Archduke"..... so what could I call this shorter bike?? Still going with that Royal theme.... as they are going to be twins in color and details....

Off on another tangent.... BSA custom long lean Path Racer "The Archduke" that turns into an Art Deco Roadster!!

More adjustments..... moved the wheel up in the forks about 15mm which gives me a 10mm drop of the steering tube..... I poked a seat on it and a set of bars, seat looks good but the bars will need to be different I think, they don't seem to work. Thinking having the bars directly on top of the...

Off on another tangent.... BSA custom long lean Path Racer "The Archduke" that turns into an Art Deco Roadster!!

I might look at shortening the fork legs to take up the fender room and get the front down and other inch to make the slope a little more radical..... I am liking the three tube look... someone has suggested a slightly small diameter for the central tube... might look good, not sure. Well, back...

Off on another tangent.... BSA custom long lean Path Racer "The Archduke" that turns into an Art Deco Roadster!!

Now that I have the other short Path Racer to the painting, filling and sand phase (and the weather is wet and humid) I have turned back to the long path racer.... cleaned up a bit today and rebuild the mock up. I think this one will have a sloping top tube also, less radical... it just works...

Yet ANOTHER tangent.... custom 1910 style English "sloping top tube" Path Racer project.

Interesting shot from a 1909 MEAD cattle dog showing a nice sloping top tube path racer. Even called "Path racer" by the factory.

Yet ANOTHER tangent.... custom 1910 style English "sloping top tube" Path Racer project.

Finished grinding and filing the metal of the frame forks and seat stay today. Then cleaned them all up free of rust and dirt and sprayed on a couple of coats of etch primer. Milestone reached! Next is a light sand and a couple of good primer coats over which I will be filling sanding...

Yet ANOTHER tangent.... custom 1910 style English "sloping top tube" Path Racer project.

Progress made today, I now have all 50 bits of frame decoration welded in place. It's not at all pretty yet, lots of grinding back of welds to do, filing and filling yet. BUT they are finally all ON!

I am really starting to question my sanity when you get down to bits this size!!! Second photo is where they go, on the inside of the seat stay....

The last lug bits looked like this today, ready to weld onto the frame....

Yet ANOTHER tangent.... custom 1910 style English "sloping top tube" Path Racer project.

Things are coming together.... I have ended up making 48 separate bits of lug decoration to fit to the frame.... here is the latest and last batch.

Yet ANOTHER tangent.... custom 1910 style English "sloping top tube" Path Racer project.

Next was to work out my chainwheel.... I am going skip tooth for this bike and I want it to make an impression so I have pretty much decided to make a 34 tooth sprocket, (68 in normal 1/2 inch pitch talk) so I made up a disc the right size to see how it would look. I am happy with the look, I...

Yet ANOTHER tangent.... custom 1910 style English "sloping top tube" Path Racer project.

I am going to make a BSA like 5 bolt flange for the drive side and attach it to the crank arm so I can bolt on my chain wheel.

Yet ANOTHER tangent.... custom 1910 style English "sloping top tube" Path Racer project.

I did some work on a couple of crusty old 7 inch crank arms I had to hand..... marking, grinding , filing and sanding to the point I can give them to the platers to finish the buffing....

Thanks, I like them too... they are larger than most and more chunky which fits better the older time frame I am aiming for.

Yet ANOTHER tangent.... custom 1910 style English "sloping top tube" Path Racer project.

Update... I have been busy filing away my lug decorations... FOR DAYS..... I have them mostly finished now and I am at the final fitting stage, getting them to look right length wise etc before attaching them. First picture is what I have after I have finished with the angle grinder on the left...

Yet ANOTHER tangent.... custom 1910 style English "sloping top tube" Path Racer project.

Yup, re "cycled" cycle for sure.... I used a normal large drill that fitted in the taper of the tailstock of the lathe, with a pen mark on it to know where to stop! Check out this thread I started about old grips on the CABE... I have pictures on there of what I have done so far, including the...

Yet ANOTHER tangent.... custom 1910 style English "sloping top tube" Path Racer project.

I forgot to mention the day I wasted making these additions to the forks.... it's just two square rods heated and bent around and welded in place... the bottom one is a bigger size then the top. Will look good when cleaned up and painted blue with yellow highlights... ignore the tape and pen...

Well... lol that's rather disappointing...... as I was aiming for 1910!!! :)

Yet ANOTHER tangent.... custom 1910 style English "sloping top tube" Path Racer project.

I am still learning the gasless mig myself. One thing is to not be afraid to use lots of power.... you can always fill a hole if you blow one, then turn it down a little... at least then you KNOW your are getting weld penetration. When I started welding with it I didn't have enough power and...
