So, I'm trying to figure out which chainguard to go with. Right now these are my options. Top to bottom: 1)Exercise bike guard; I was thinking of using this on a build years ago that didn't materialize 2) Huffman guard; not correct but I like...

    1947 Columbia Build

I consider old bikes to be some of the best machines out there, from a simplistic standpoint. I've had some early 1900's bikes with precision fit bottom bracket and headset components, and some very precise machine work. On the other hand, this stuff was made to sell, and paint can cover a lot...

Also, after reviewing some pics, I guess my front basket support should be tilted up just a bit.

I have a pile of rear fenders that would be fine for this build. But I keep glancing at this one. It wouldn't be correct. But it has a curved brace like many of the roadmasters. It came off of a Huffman ladies bike. Similar rack to a dial-your-ride. I might feel bad about breaking up the fender...

40's?? Huffman ladies' tank lowered to $35 shipped

Would also trade for a prewar Roadmaster badge

40's?? Huffman ladies' tank lowered to $35 shipped

This tank was on a 26" Huffman that looked prewar, with the exception of the rack. My guess would be early postwar. Funny thing is that you can see the blue/white original paint underneath, which matches the frame. So they painted the tank and rack but left the frame original? Or maybe sourced...

    1947 Columbia Build

Since postwar Schwinn has some of the more complete records and serial numbers online, people often look up their serial and find that it was a Monday produced frame, and these frames often are a bit more sloppy. I'm sure there was sub-standard work performed by people or departments on every...

    1947 Columbia Build

Rather than Friday afternoon work, it might have been a Monday morning hangover production.

Thanks TRM. Here is my first attempt at basket supports. It isn't correct, original looking, or anything else. But it is straight, level, and I would trust it to hold 40+ lbs with no issue. I still have to make the upper bracket that will wrap around the back of the headtube. I think this setup...

I'm still looking for pictures of one of these in original paint so I can try to get the right accents and paint scheme. I have original paint roadmaster fenders, so I can use that as a basis for painting the fenders. The frame is where I'm stuck. I've searched online a lot, but can't find any...

The coveted "before pic". Notice the graceful geometry of the fork pre-repair. I used a piece of 2"x2" square tubing with a long slot cut in it to place between a car jack set on the fork and the bottom bracket to get it straight.

The primer showed some imperfections that, while minor, were easy fixes. So I took care of those and started paint. The base coat is down, but it's getting a little cold for paint. should have a picture tomorrow. Also, worked on the front support earlier. Needs some tweaking for the part that...

The frame in customary red primer. Also, it had been previously repaired at the right dropout. Looks like they had cracked it where the tensioner threads in, and then just brazed all of it solid. I ground it down smooth, and it looks like a very solid repair. My first thought was to cut that...

    Her Name's Christine

My highschool car was a 74 Chrysler New Yorker, and I wish I had it back. It was haunted too, and hungry for ballast resistors. I always kept one in the glove compartment

    Her Name's Christine

I got what you meant. I was just being funny. But yeah, it is an odd choice, given what was available at the time. I tend to go for cars that aren't as popular anyways. So anybody who sees me smiling and driving what I love, probably thinks I'm an ...... Right now I only own one car that I like...

He didn't choose the car... it chose him. I almost bought a 59 locally a couple of months ago. Wouldn't have been exact, just close enough for me. But I don't need a haunted car, I have 3 to keep up already

Grey Ghost Stingray ....'S Sporting Goods

Also, a cheap fix, but replace that allen head screw in the gooseneck, and maybe a few other bolts to help it at least appear slightly less "metric".

For $399, I'd be more worried about component quality. Chrome quality, wheels, bearings, that sort of thing. I can paint any 20" frame in Silver Mist and slap a 24 or 26 springer on it. Other than the white paint mentioned above, it looks like a fair deal. Although I suspect most will be...

So here is another basket I dug out. Larger than the Wald I have. Also the bars and seat I'm thinking of going with. The basket is just over 23" wide, the bars are 27". They have a lot of rise. Hopefully not too much. I added another bar pic because the first angle makes them look like normal...

    Prewar/early postwar 20" fender

I have to repaint, so I will likely hold out for a cheap orphan. It sounds like the set you have deserves to stay original. Thanks, though
