Getting close! Wet sanded fenders and guard to bring out the blue.Didn't know the frame and forks were blue until I started sanding.The color on the Huffman frame was surprisingly close to the Higgins so I did my best to blend the top tubes and tank.I never liked the name JC Huffman.Always liked...

Welded tab on for cable roller and hooked up shifter.Had to rebuild detent ball on shifter.Brass teeth in center had worn out allowing ball to escape.Found that headset bearing fit perfect.Added a bollt to limit throw of handle to just what I needed.

Thanks Renaissance Man.Still not quite happy with my attempt at matching the patina of the fenders.Its not as easy as you made it look on your tank.And yes im still collecting rusty screws and hardware.That shiny one bothers me too.

Thanks Kingfish.So since the shifter takes up space where horn would be I needed something cool to block the button hole.Thought a coin might look good.Even better a rusty coin.Thought of the 1943 tin pennies I have.Then I had to pick up the 43 license plate to go with it.Not sure if they would...

Heres a pic of my girls huffman starting to come together.

Been doin some bodywork.Im a little rusty,been years since I worked at a bodyshop.Trying to blend in with with rust on tank.Might add a few bits of blue to match fenders.Made a trim piece to cover front seam out of an old fender bracket.Feelin the presure with more finished bikes being posted.

Thanks to all for the kind comments.Thanks for the warning about the pedals Mazdaflyer.Thought about dulling the points on them but then again most rat rods are a little dangerous.Got the headlight working yesterday.Working on hooking up the shifter now.

Was going to make it a hanging tank but the more I stared at it it just looked unfinished.So today I added a bottom bar.

Had an old handlebar ball light that looked about at tall as the tank.Cut down handlebar bracket for fender mount.Found a lens from a newer light I had.Installed some rusty truss rods that clear tank.Dont have the teardrop pedals done yet but had to take it for a tast ride!

Thank you very much,means a lot coming from veteran builders like you.Wanted some teardrop pedals but checked the budget and there was none.So I made one plate so far,,only 3 more to go.

Cut chainguard bracket and moved up to clear sprocket.Trying to get fender brackets and chainguard to line up and flow together,still needs more.Started rusting top bar.Not sure if I like the newer balloon tires but they sure fill up the fenders nice.Appreciate all feedback.

Got a little time to work on the bike this weekend.Tacked shifter brackets on twice and cut them off twice.Third try finally got it where I want it.Trimmed tank to clear shifter.Also replaced BB races.Thinkin about throwing some tires and a chain on and taking for a test ride. :grin: OK,maybe...

Thank you for all the replies and comments.Found brass hand throttle in a old city water truck that was being scrapped.Thought it would be a cool shifter.So I traded my 2 speed kickback wheel that was to shiny for a rusty wheel set with cable shift.

Had some fun tacking the tank and top tube today.Wish i had a shop.

Found that the 1inch tubing fit loosely in my 1 1/4 conduit bender so I tried to match top line of tank.Notched and wedged tube in place.Also capped front of tank.About ready to start welding.

Got some cutting and mock up done yesterday and today.
