73 Heavy-Duti fast build (Done; well mostly)

4 builds at once. Still playing with 3-on-the-tree. Difference with this one is I really need a solid rider and my daily rider is broken yet again (been all I could do to not throw that mongoose under a bus or truck) I'm just doing some cleaning on this some grease and throwing some parts at...

73 Heavy-Duti fast build (Done; well mostly)

So picked up a 73 Schwinn Heavy duty the other day and I'm hoping to make this a fast build and ride it. The day I got it after a little cleaning. Today I fitted up a pair of crankbrook wheels with my Bontrager Hank tires and bolted them up. Well the rear was a bit fun because the fender was...

(MBBO Class 1) Orange Lightening....9-Speed...'69 Fastback.

Cool build idea. question tho. What chain you going to use? Those mag chain rings use a wider chain than the 9 speed. Right?

    1973 Schwinn Heavy-Duty value

Thanks that is good to hear. I received a women's version a while back that I stripped. It was only used for a month or so then locked up to the bike rack outside my building for around a year. Only issue I'm seeing at this point is how short the brake arm is. Going to see if I have a longer...

    Craigslist nightmares and dreams...

Just found the paper from toys-r-us. It clearly states: *Assemble a bicycle completely and properly in 15-25 minutes depending on bike.

Leaving the ugly blue color for right now just trying to get it rideable . The wheels I'm using are from a women's crankbrook iirc.

    Craigslist nightmares and dreams...

I wouldn't. Just found out most of these bikes are built in less than 30 minutes. I've gone to 3 stores for interviews for bicycle assemblers wanted and depending on the store they only allow 30 minutes max per bike starting when you open the box.

Found the wheel set but the hoops are blue. Could easily go black but I'm wondering if there's an off the shelf yellow that would be close enough to the kool lemon on the frame.

    Degreasing Parts

You should have seen them before. I thought these parts were about trash. Going to see about a bit more clean up on these. I've only ever had one Hartford crank bearing set that couldn't be saved.

    Degreasing Parts

Ok update time. Decided to pull the parts at 10 hours to see how they were looking. Not too shabby Wish I had taken before pics as these parts had plenty of rust and grease to start. Maybe I can get before & after shots on different parts later. As a note these are 1969 parts that had been on...

(MBBO Class 1) Fruit Krate be Done!

Need to do something to stretch it out. I thought about bolt on dropouts and run a taller tire (24 or26") to stabilize one of these little bikes

    1973 Schwinn Heavy-Duty value

I just got told after bringing home the heavy duti that I need to get my bikes finished. Almost every bike has parts pulled off. I may need to find a day to dedicate to putting bikes together even it they are not rideable together just as a cleanup effort. Also might give away a couple newer...

    Degreasing Parts

So I tossed some parts in white vinegar when I meant to toss them in simple green first. They do have rust but got ahead of myself. Well not feeling like switching thing out I decided to mix some dawn with the vinegar & parts. I just checked a little bit ago and the grease is off the parts from...
