    Truing Magnesium Wheels

In theory, the rims should be pretty bulletproof. Could any wobble be coming from the axle and bearings? Just an idea.

    Unknown hand tool...

it looks like a tiny Cyclops Nail Puller- One of those weird tools that can save your bacon. If you know about them.

    Brr

Weather in San Francisco is kinda like Warsaw- 50F and raining. But it's the first rain of the year, a free carwash and washing the (literal) scum off of the sidewalks. And, lots of snow in the Sierras to hopefully melt next spring and summer. Not a good time to travel...

    Any weird front hubs?

Lacing up a wheel is really easy. Here is a quick youtube video: The best information for any wheel is at: https://www.wheelpro.co.uk/wheelbuilding/book.php Well worth the 12.00 US. It looks complicated but it's not as long as you pay attention

    Monark Monareta Tandem 1973 FINISCHED

Some kind of flue or duct brush? Looks like the technical term is tube and valve brush. A weatherproof raccoon tail?

    Any weird front hubs?

Just a quick peek at "bicycle hubs" on aliexpress turns up a bunch of odd and garishly anodized hubs, most set up for disc brakes and derailleur gears.

    Slow Bike Sales

Where I am, in San Francisco, there are a lot of ChiCom stylish bikes available new- things like Linus, Mission Bikes, Public Bikes, etc. That seems to have taken the bottom out of the older rebuilt bike market. Apart from the retro grouch folks, hipsters want what they are familiar with. For...

how would i make a dual chain bike?

I just tripped over this tricycle hub- looks like it could work out of the box: https://www.huskybicycles.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Session_ID=20e843401706a923e1123e0bceb43969&Store_Code=hb&Screen=PROD&Product_Code=362-451

    reconditioning tires

If the tire has holes you put an inner tube patch on the inside of the carcass. I have ridden on these but probably should not have. The inside of the carcass needs a good cleaning and sanding before trying this.

Matti goes shopping. New bike phobia

If you are used to steel, borrow an aluminum hardtail and ride it for a while. You might not like it. I picked up a 1987 Nishiki Ariel recently and just plain love it. The geometry is very similar to a Surly Long Haul Trucker, but with nicer butted tubes and at a yard sale price rather than...

This fork is very Polish. Or is it?

I dug a little deeper, and there were some bikes imported from Poland in the 1960s and 70s, mostly lower end lightweight one and three speeds. Nice to learn something new...

    Vintage track bars?

SOMA Major Taylors are kinda close: https://www.somafab.com/parts/handlebar I have a steel pair of Lauterwasser bars on a 1930's Raleigh Gazelle and really like them.

This fork is very Polish. Or is it?

Looks European with the the chrome cap and box striping, but could be German, DDR, Dutch, Belgian, etc. There were not a lot of cold war era imports from COMECON countries. What is the quality like, what is the rake and is it set up for fenders or a lamp?

Rusty nuts etc, how do you open?

Kroil is as much better than PB Blaster as PB Blaster is better than WD-40. "Judicious application of heat" will usually work. If you can cut the pesky part without damaging something else, go for it. If it is a stuck slotted screw, be very careful- you will only get one shot. Clean out the...

    Fenders. Yea or ney?

Yeah, verily. Always fenders. They are a pain in the keister to fit, mount and get the right radius but it shows you care. They really tie the bike together so it looks finished. If it's raining, so what?

    Chainguard ID and mounting hardware

I need to fab up a front mount for this chainguard of unknown origin. Has anyone run into mounts like these? I'd like to see what the original hardware looked like before I kludge something together. Someone must have designed it this way for a reason...
