Is that a stock Schwinn chainring on that beautiful Sidewinder? and if not ... do you know what kind it is? I saw a one piece crank on a Merida that looked like that, but have not been able to scare up anyplace that has them.

Mounting the front wheel axle mounts above the lower frame rails would bring your front tire closer to the top frame rails. (If I understand your concern correctly.)
Aaah the Umbilical. I had one of those several years ago on a Friday. Monday I had to pull the transmission out of my '72 Chevy C/20, on the ground from underneath. Only struggle was getting it up into the trunk of my car. Best to take it easy for awhile.

FELT bicycles sells a 24" x 3" knobby tire they call the Berm Master. I have some mounted on 2.5" Large Marge rims and they sit 26 1/2" tall and 3 1/4" wide. Vintage Iron uses them on their FELT made bicycles that look like old dirt...

Did you know that choppersusa carries the wide BB's and axles for fat tire bikes? I have purchased several from them.

When I first saw the Beast, I thought it needed exactly what you have done (except the forks. They are an added bonus). So I relaced the rims and spokes from my Beast onto the hubs I already had mounted with 24x4.25 wheels and tire, and put the 26 inchers into my diamond frame that...
