Frame and other parts have (thankfully) dried!!

First coat of paint applied to frame and small parts. Whew! Joining this build-off is really pushing me ... but it's the push I needed. Introduced the chain guard to the step bit today.

Sanding (nearly) complete. Second phase of fitting tomorrow, and a light coat of paint. Paint is going to take awhile with this cold spell. May have to burn the branch pile Saturday night and make sure all painted parts are close. :) Headlight painted, lens tinted, bracket TBD

Hi Carl, it's Carl. :) Upside: All parts on hand, and fab-ing/fitting can be done in the house. Downside: It's too d*&^% cold to paint!

Happy 2017 Rat Rodders! After a long bitter hiatus, I am back to building/riding. Back surgeries (2012-2015) had me way out of the game. Anyway. My lovely bride gave me a great birthday gift this month .. 1960 Schwinn Speedster (dated 4/20/1960). I'll post progress on that in another thread...

Re: "Run Whutcha Brung" - First build in too long a time Had a springer given to me that ended up being too short .. oh well. Bars were part of that donation too. I think they work better with the stock fork. My bent post didn't work as planned, but it doesn't matter, cause it's all fun...

Thanks for the comment on the paint! If the frame is prepped right, the spray can is a valuable tool indeed. I use an old car modeler's trick of soaking my spray can in hot water for a few minutes before I paint. Seems to make the paint flow much better. Up lose, that orange has a few nicks...

Buck a spoke, 20 bucks a wheel labor for lacing. Check up tensioning at 1000 miles, and free tensioning & truing after that.

Re: "Run Whutcha Brung" - First build in too long a time Seat is 90% complete. Some black paint on the hardware and the vinyl still needs to be sewn. Crappy cell phone pics ... enjoy. Decided to add a sugar skull stencil under the seat while the other black paint is drying.

Moments like these I wish I were in Kansas! We have a huge, super-fast soapbox hill near us. May have to snip this idea and hold our own ratrod drag races.
