MTB ride: I was poorly equipped for this :D

What he said. Those starter mtbs are just failures waiting to happen on mtb terrain and those XCT forks are complete pogo sticks and even worst if you are a bigger chap.

were do you drawl the line? how many bikes are 1 to many?

That is fair. Also why quite a few of mine with end up single speed but even without that, I am not a big fan of owning things I never use or don't have a specific use for so I don't think I could stand to have as many bikes as I mentioned sitting around. We will see though cause to some extent...

were do you drawl the line? how many bikes are 1 to many?

I currently have my hardtail mountain bike, a gravel bike, BMX, an old mtb converted to commuter, a drift trike and a single speed cyclocross bike that lives on the trainer. Plans: Currently collecting parts to build a rigid bikepacking/mountain bike, a klunker styled single speed mountain...

    The Schwinn no one wanted

That thing turned out pretty wicked. The green fork really works with those wheels imo.

Same. There are a few interesting ones that have come out recently like the Rene Herse Humptulip, Ultradynamico Mars and Terra One Rider T1. The first two of them are more focused on gravel style riding but still. I really want something more grippy then a Maxxis Ardent but not a full out...

Are box drop handlebars any good?

Why would you run drop bars if you don't use the drops?

Pedal Draggers. Like'em, Hate'em, could care less...

I like the look of them but where I live I have too many hills between my house and anywhere I would want to ride to get any use out of one so I will probably never own one.

    39 inch wheel MTB.

It is insane. It is a Chinese made rack with plastic parts. A USA made 1UP rack that is all aluminum is half that price. I have never owned a car worth $13k.

To be fair mountain biking and biking in general is getting kind of stupid. See these three articles coming on the same day on Pinkbike $13k Pivot Firebird $1300 bike rack Electronic dropper design for gravel

    39 inch wheel MTB.

IMO that is the great thing about the uptick with gravel bikes and bikepacking. Companies are making more all round bikes but old mtbs are also great for that and so much fun to build.

    39 inch wheel MTB.

Sure a better rider is always going to be a faster then a less skilled one. But that is where I stop agreeing with you. I have way more fun on a modern mountain bike trails particularly when the trails get steep. I mean if you enjoy old school bikes continue to do so but I don't buy into the...
