I know where your coming from, but he loves them, and he can reach them a lot easier. The kid is all legs. I did get the big "best daddy in the world" hug and thank you!

ITS DONE!! Final weight is 32.36 pounds, so its about 5 pounds heavier than his Hotrock, but it has 8 speed and fat tires and disc brakes, so thats pretty good! And since one of the rules of the build off is that it has to be rideable by an adult. Here is a video of me playing on it!

The chainring that I ordered yesterday should be here today. Also, I found a BB7 and BB5 brake caliper, so those will be going on today....

Thanks for the compliments! OddJob, those decals are cool. I have a few buddies that pinstripe. I was thinking of getting some Surly decals for it. We will see. I just ordered a chainring for it. JensonUSA has Shimano Ultegra rings for $6.99! It should be here in the next couple...

I got the first mockup done tonight. It still needs a chain, chainring, and the derailer cable. I found an extra 8 speed shifter, so it's an 8 speed instead of a 7. And I found an XT derailer for it. I really wish I could have gotten it lighter, but I went for ride ability over weight...

I tried everything. Ratcheting strap around the tire, soap, even straying starter fluid in the tire and hitting it with a lighter. Nothing would get it to seat. So I put a tube in and filled it up. Even with a tube there isn't a really hard seat to these tires. I assume its the rim profile...

Got the cranks today. Origin8 140mm arms. Saved 1.06 pounds! Also working on the tubeless setup, fighting it, stupid rims wont seat. More on that later. Total weight saved so far is 8.24 pounds!

Thats sweet! Your chain is going to go slack on you though. You may want to consider making it a geared bike, then the derailer will take care of chain tension.

Thanks guys! That is a Genuine original Herman Miller knockoff! Most of our furniture is mid-century. Almost all of it is Heywood Wakefield, except for our couch, which is a reproduction, and our bed, because its really hard to find a vintage king size bed. I made our bar from an old...

I got the wheels built up. 24 spoke instead of 36. It makes for a cool pattern too! Front wheel is 1150g, rear is 1290. Saved 140g in spokes and nipples. total weight savings at this point is 7.18 pounds

Tires just showed up!!!! They are so cool! 20x4 Specialized Ground Control. They are 1070g and 1100g. Stock tires are 1925g and 2000g! So the tires save me another 1755g or 3.87 pounds!! Total weight saving so far is 6.87 pounds.

So, if I got with 24 spokes over 18, the bike will be 80g heavier. BUT, I have a feeling that I will get on this bike every so often, and I'm afraid that 18 spokes may not be strong enough for my fat gut. I have a tendency to ride stuff on my boys bike when he is afraid to try it, to show...

If you want presta valves, most bike shops should have them. OR Amazon. Stans valves are good. If you want schrader valves, then your pretty much stuck with split tube.

ORBO Inspiration: The Original "Klunkers" and Pioneers of MTB

Man I love Klunkers. I have an ATOM 5 speed rear drum brake, and a set of 26x3.0 tires. Now I just need the rest of the bike.....

I use Stans simply because I live about a mile from Performance Bike, and they always seem to have it on sale. I have it in my fat bike, and my Yeti 575.

    What terrain ?

My build off bike will be ridden all over! We have the beach here, plus snow in the local mountains, plus tons great mountain biking! And almost all of it has lots of hills!
