    New project: Gossamer the Bike!

Apparently, there is a shortage of the BB this bike was spec’d with. You can only get it on their complete bikes! They are selling blem frames with cranks and no BB. I guess Corona virus hit the Bottom Bracket makers hardest!

    Apparently Panasonic made B I G bikes.

Very much so! Also- butting tubes for each size adds LOTS to the cost!

    Apparently Panasonic made B I G bikes.

Somewhere in the 90s, they kept seat tubes under 55cm and started growing seat posts.

    Beat me to it.

60 cm with 650c wheels look even stranger!

    New project: Gossamer the Bike!

Motorised bike components are used on this guy. I think I will need a longer M12 bolt for the crank because I had to creatively space the crank to keep from hitting the chain stay. Being that BikeBerry was the one who had the head set, they would have had the correct JIS taper wide shell BB...

    New project: Gossamer the Bike!

Installed the semi integrated headset into the head tube. The humble hockey puck and a mallet was my tool of choice. Also had a use for my old Bringhelli Crown Race setter. Little by little, it’s looking like a bike: Yes- I need some spacers LOL

I should have someone make spinners for the fat tyre wheels! Kidding!!!!! But the axle spinner WILL go on!

    Interesting stem shifters.

Makes me sad. I visited the old factory in the mid 90s. It was a great factory. I wondered when it would come to no more US-made bikes. Giant has always had a nice operation. I remember when they were trying to break from the off-brand image and sponsored a UCI touring road team. I also...

Does Trek make any frames in Wisconsin any longer

    Interesting stem shifters.

Okay- Giant is literally the Microsoft of bike manufacturers. Likely they may have built a few of those Nishikis. They made so many bikes for so many people, Schwinn being their chief patron. Nishiki were prolific as it seemed for the longest time between the 70s and 90s, I would see at least...

Nishiki is about as prolific of a manufacturer as you could get.

    Interesting stem shifters.

I am looking this bike. It’s kind of a UJB (universal Japanese bicycle), as most of them have roughly the same construction (rudimentary lugged construction, stem shifted, safety brake levers), but each have a few unique pieces. My brother’s bike had actual down tube levers mounted on a stem...

Will not be used. The metal bow ties are sharp from use. Will be using something else.

Found a Schwinn Varsity with aero bars today.

What a weird mix of two vintage eras! Though during the birth of tri and duathlon, this was a common set up. The only thing missing is a Uni disc cover on the rear wheel and possibly a Nitto aero post. What is surprising is that the arm rests are still in decent shape.

BB will work. The 3mm axle difference should be fine. Never had anything delivered by Spee-dee Delivery. Interesting...
