    1947 Columbia Build

Its been nice weather so I've been concentrating on finishing the staining of my house siding. Consequently, I didn't get much time to work on the Columbia. So far I've removed the wheels, fenders, seatpost, and the fork. Bit of a problem with crank removal, however, because someone in the past...

Rims: Am I Looking for the Impossible?

Yes, I agree that they seem a little narrow, but as long as it'll fit a 2.125 then I'm good to go. I found these: http://www.alexrims.com/products/zuma-1-0/ but I can't source them anywhere. Perhaps you all can try and report back here. Its so disappointing to know in your head what you need...

Rims: Am I Looking for the Impossible?

I found and ordered these: https://www.bmxguru.com/collections/rims-26/products/se-racing-double-wall-rim-26-36h-silver-anodized lol, it would appear that I bought the last two.

Rims: Am I Looking for the Impossible?

I didn't mention it, but I'll also need 36H. I went to Niagara. Specifically to the pages in your link. The closest I can find is the Sun 26x2.00, which is still a wee bit narrow for my tastes. That, and its silver but not polished. Is there any such thing as a really good steel chromed rim?

Rims: Am I Looking for the Impossible?

I'm going insane. My current build is a 1947 Columbia, and I'm nearly done with the frame. Meanwhile, I'm sourcing wheel components. I have a sweet re-chromed Bendix hub for the rear, and I'm looking for a front hub to match. The problem is that I'm hitting dead ends at every turn when I look...

    Best Bang for Buck Tig?

The Eastwood welders, being Chinese, are not bad. I had the Eastwood 200, and someone offered me a deal I could not refuse. Thing is - I didn't even get a chance to use it! The newer Chinese welders seem to have more features and are more advanced that the Eastwoods - which are a lot more...

Where can I buy the longer axle? NM - I went to Coaster Culture website and found them.

    Unnamed

Yeah right! A lot of my projects turn into experiments. sometimes the experiment turns out great and sometimes it goes into the scrap metal pile. There's an old saying that in order to be successful in what you go, you have to understand failure. Thomas Edison tried like 10,000 times before he...

    Unnamed

I'm thinking that unless the left side is super-beefy, and the rear wheel axle is super-beefy, then the torque on the drive side would pull the rear wheel to the left and bend.

Lucky 7 seatpost the same as 5/8" rod?

I have a '41 Columbia with the same diameter. I bought 6ft of 5/8" precision-ground steel from McMaster-Carr, and its perfect. I polished and waxed it real good, but the next one will get a clear acrylic spray.

    Best Bang for Buck Tig?

Hey all. I'm wanting to buy a tig and get to know it. I've done plenty of tig welding on the job, but never had to buy one for myself. Lots of new welders out there - many are Chinese - which may not be a bad thing if the price is right. I know that I want AC/DC so that I can do steel and...

    Best Place to Buy Tubing?

Dang, I pass those up for free left and right. I'm going to slap myself now, and get back on track. Thanks for the tip. In the OP I was referring to new tubing stock, but now I see that there's a lot of options.

    Best Place to Buy Tubing?

Okay let's say I have a frame and I want to stretch it or add a tube. Is there a CHEAP place to buy suitable steel tubing for this sort of stuff?

    1947 Columbia Build

Oh, I agree fully! I'll space the front and rear for the wheels that I'll be using, and check frame for alignment even before I begin smoothing everything out. Strange - I'm an educated and accomplished welder, yet I do not own an OA torch setup. I just retired last year, and I've come to...

    1947 Columbia Build

Hi everyone, So this is my oldest resto-build to date. A Columbia that I actually drove to Westfield, Mass to pick up. Not super sure where I'm going with this yet, but it'll definitely get the good stuff. This is the way I got it. Repainted. I stripped the paint off, and found...
