My Basman Build aka El Jefe

Nice start! Love the shape of those Basman frames

    Shop bike take 2

Lookin' good, lots of curvy squareness

    v 4.0

Decided I didn't like the rear mounts for the seat, they made the back of the bike look squared off and interupted the flow of the upper stays. Finished the rest of the framing for the battery/controller box too. Time to look at the handlebars in the next couple of days. I'd like to incorporate...

    v 4.0

I don't see it being a problem. I've run this setup hard for a long time and never had any overheating trouble. The rear of the box won't be sealed in and I'm running the 84 volt controller on 48 volts.

    v 4.0

Progress on the battery and controller framework. There's a mount for the dc/dc converter below the controller and slots for the velco straps that will secure the battery.

Falstaff: Here you go, a link to the site where I purchased mine. Fast shipping, arrived at my doorstep in one week from China. My Science! build uses two LiFePo4 packs and only has 20ah total, each pack is larger and heavier than the new one which has 3x the capacity. If you make the...

    v 4.0

Had a chance to do some work over the Remembrance Day holiday. Looks like the battery/electronics box will fit nicely between the pedals. The new battery technology is amazing, that little blue box is 30ah at 48 volts, should have at least 60km of range.

    Flat pack bicycle "RAZOR"

A similar approach to the plastic bike but with more conventional materials. Does the bike flex much when ridden? At first I was trying to figure the rear suspension until I realized the seat was suspended. Another unique build :41:

    Flat pack bicycle "RAZOR"

Watch out, Ikea could rip off your idea if they ever get into sporting goods. Great effort, definitely thinking outside the 'box' (pun intended). Better not spend too much time polishing it or you may blind an oncoming driver. :cool2:

Thanks Dash: Ordered the seat and mount kit off Aliexpress. I'm impressed with the quality, I cut the front mount to get it lower to the frame.

    v 4.0

Thanks John  There will be a 12 volt led motorcycle tail light on top of the crossbar under the seat. I'm debating whether to add a matching pair of gussets behind the rear seat mount to reduce the somewhat squared off look

Got soaked mountain biking Saturday morning, but after a meal and a hot shower managed to get a little work done on the rear seat mounts...

    Shop bike take 2

Looks like either a 4" tire coming soon or at very least a diamond shaped wide glide. I like the mix of square and round, I tried that a bit on my Science! (experiment) build.

    cheap?

ah yes, didn't know the history. By today's standard it's junk, $100 is fair. With that said, it's got just enough stretch you could replace the outdated electrics with modern stuff, you can get a rear wheel kit for about $300 and they make battery packs about that shape/size with modern...

Cool shape. You shouldn't have to fight this one half as much to ride it. Looks like it's going to come together quickly at the speed you work. :41:

    cheap?

I'd bet $100 the price is actually $1000

    starting my build

The "first attempt" fork looks great! I know at least a couple people who would buy a set of those triple trees, they look perfect for a fat front tire. Let us know if you'd like to make a couple more sets to sell. :113: Thanks for the link Dr T, I just ordered four of those freewheel spacers...

    v 4.0

Sorry Fruttolo, my bad... Must be my British sense of humour. I meant enjoy the build but turn a blind eye to the electric bits which I'll be focusing on soon as the seat spring supports are done. :tmi:

    v 4.0

:39: I see you've never commuted to work on a 100lb bicycle before. But seriously, my e-builds are basically 3000 - 5000 watt fly-weight electric motorcycles, the pedals make it appear legal. This bike will be speed limited to approximately 54km/h (+30mph) by having a 48 volt 30ah battery...

    v 4.0

Yesterday's progress. I need more material to make the seat and battery/controller mounts.
