No, wrongo guys. That’s the spare tire carrier for a ‘61 IHC pickup truck! The blue paint reminded me.

Winkler crashed when he first had to ride a bike on the opening credits. He’d never ridden a motorcycle once. 100% fake Hollywood.

I have some light channels and tubing that will stiffen the floor, reinforce the crossmember & and tie all the subframe loads up into the frame. I think it can work like this.

I didn’t get in any welding the past couple days but I did spend a lot of time cleaning up my welding area of flammable debris. The neighbor’s trees were dropping lots of leaves. I also changed out my ragged welding curtain. They help keep out the leaves. I started to make some frame brackets...

The other 4 floor ledgers are now, fitted and tack welded in place. They are plug welded to every flute. Today I get to go plug weld the other side.

The engine starts and runs ok, but at maybe 60hp right now. It needs more compression. I’ve only been able to push this up to 55 with two people in it, but that was with a clogged up carb. Air cooled VW, however are no big mystery to me. I have built a few. The body needs minor details...

Today I bought more argon and I spent a lot of time cleaning and prepping for more frame welds. Also, I managed to get half of these floor ledgers on. The front two were shaped and joggled to fit around things. The others were notched and bent to fit the floor pan. I have half of the...

    Versatile cargo Trailer

This is a trailer I built for my wife, right before she quit riding. I used wheels from a chinese welding cart with big bearing hubs and 25mm tube axle. It will hold the weight of 2 medium welding gas bottles easily. But I made this to tow from the fender hole below the seat. Have you tried...

The wardrobe idea turned out great! Here we would call that a rack. A towel rack or drying rack. Something for drying wet cloth. Here, a wardrobe is a big cabinet, to hold all your big clothes, which is not part of the house. If it’s actually like a tiny room of the house, it is a clothes...

I got six gussets tacked on and two are welded off for now. They will get a bit more from the other side, once I flip the frame. With practice and adjustments I was able to get some good overhead and vertical welds. I put down 60 welds and tacks today. There is a gap to fill on both sides of...

Here is a better view of what is going on. I won’t be able to get any of this after the big gusset is on.

This is the overhead welding. I made 1 bad tack, 3 good tacks, one viable weld, and an ugly blob where I went over a dirty tack weld (trying to make a second viable weld) and “blew it up”.

I had to add some little fillers to the bottom plate, so I could get a full weld across these gaps. The gap on the other side was a little smaller, but here you can see the filler plate that I made. It is just tacked and I will weld it all the way around. Here you can see that the filler...

I got some more tin parts etched and I made these forward frame closures.

It’s gorgeous, but frankly the bike I have now is already too heavy, and as I age I am looking back to my past and longing for more flick-able machinery.

I got all the zinc stripped off, then burnished the steel, and cut my ledgers to fit the floor. Those are not welded in yet. This heavy wall steel tube came from a Schwinn bicycle rack I recycled. I cut it in half, but first, one end had a bracket that needed to be stripped off. One...
