how do I clean up rusty skip tooth chain?

Don't soak it too long. I put a chain in vinegar and forgot about it for a few days. It pretty much dissolved except for the steel plates. At least it was a cheap chain, and not a skip tooth.

how do I clean up rusty skip tooth chain?

White Vinegar soak for about 4-6 hours. Then put it in a bath of 30w oil or whatever you have around for a day or so. Some brushing required, and hang the chain to drain for awhile. I know - no oil on chains, collects dirt. We are talking rescuing a rusted chain here, not a $5000 road bike...

I see no reason to not use a drift punch and a hammer. I'd try the spanner wrench first and celebrate if it worked!

    Shelby Traveler

Great project. Ladies fork steer tube (and head tube) is usually longer than a men's frame. Not an problem that can't be solved by cutting it down and cutting the threads further. Dies are available for the threads, kind of pricey, but, I'd say for this project, worth the investment.

A little piece of Frot Worth history

Although not shown in the video, the museum has 2 bikes on display, a girls and a boys balloon IIRC. You can get a pretty good hamburger at the cafe next door too. The museum is easy to find, it's just west of the new Target store that is behind the Montgomery Wards building on West 7th.

is $75 good for a Mongoose Beast fat tire bike?

Very fun bike to cruise around on. I went thru 2 of them. Good advice about the lube and adjust. You can also change the rear cog for about $5 to gear it down a bit. I think I went to 20 tooth without changing the chain. I liked 22 tooth best, but the stock chain is a couple links short...

    Secrets of the Masters

When wrapping handlebars with bar tape, use a small piece of electrical tape to hold the end in position, then do the final wrap with rescue tape instead of electrical tape. Electrical tape eventually loosens and comes off. Rescue tape is expensive, but amazing stuff. You have to cut it off...

First Ride in 50+ years: 2023 Update

Love your updates. Glad the weather is cooperating. Getting better here too unless you happen to live in a flood plain, or built too close to a lake shore.

Let me tell you from experience, it's not the cost of the ring, .... far from it. It's you two together. When it's right, you know it, and nothing else matters
