    Grease/Oil in a Bendix Kickback

Thanks for all the help, guys. Yeah, reassembly has me just a tad worried, simply because I don't entirely understand how the clutch and indexing spring work to change gears. That's the only time I'm worried about reassembling something, when I don't understand how it works :D. But I've got a...

    Grease/Oil in a Bendix Kickback

Just recently took apart my first Bendix kickback hub (yellow band) and got everything cleaned up, now I'm ready for reassembly. I'm just wondering if it's alright to use while lithium grease throughout the hub? Or do some surfaces (like the planet gears) need oil? Most of the resources I'm...

    Bottom Bracket Conversion

Sorry, I know this thread is a little old, but it's not clear if the OP ever got his answer, and I just went from never having done such a conversion to doing both a cottered-to-3 piece and one piece-to-three piece conversions in the last two weeks, so I think I can break it down at the level...

    Lets see your winter bike.

Thanks for thinking of me with that bike; I love old Peugots (though I have yet to own one). I'm 5'8 with a similar standover, but for some reason I really like my frames with a 20" seat tube. I'm crossing my fingers that I won't need the Peugot, though; I've got a promising project in the...

    SRAM Automatix 2 speed hub.

I should probably just create a seperate thread for this, but I'll go ahead and ask it here anyways: What is the difference between the S2C and the B2C? Both seem identical from all the information I can dig up.

Looking for saddle recommendations for a touring cruiser

I'm right on board with you on all of that, except, for some reason, I feel compelled to impress people. If only such a company existed to meet my unique needs :D.

DIY Cup Press for OPC BB cups

I've been using a DIY headset cup press similar to the one in this picture: Basically, a 1/2 inch threaded rod, two flange nuts, two nylon washers, two flat washers, and four fender washers. The fender washers are what actually contacts the cups, driving them into place. Here's the problem...

Looking for saddle recommendations for a touring cruiser

I might have to start a thread on here, "Show Me Your Cruiser Bars With Bar Ends" ... Google doesn't turn up any results, and I just need to visualize how ridiculous this is going to be look before I attempt it :D. In all seriousness, some of the pain I was feeling towards the end of that ride...

Getting old is no fun :D. Sometimes I wonder if you work for Wald on the side ... your knowledge of the catalogue is staggering :39:.

    SRAM Automatix 2 speed hub.

I'll let the other guys answer this with certainty, but just some speculation on my part: 1. I'm guessing that Worksman frame is spaced at 110mm (or maybe 116). So you'd have to spread your frame a little bit. 2. The flange diameter might be greater than your Shimano hub (often seems to be...

    SRAM Automatix 2 speed hub.

Ah, I did not know about the spacers. Thanks for the info; that opens up a few other projects I could put this on. It sounds like 40-45mm is pretty much the standard chainline when it comes to coaster brake hubs, but I just measured my (single speed coaster brake) KT hub and got a chainline of...

    SRAM Automatix 2 speed hub.

Yep, measure from the center of the hub to the cog. Alternatively, since I know the hub is spaced at 130mm, and half of 130 is 65mm, you could just measure from the dropout to the cog and subtract that from 65mm.

    SRAM Automatix 2 speed hub.

Ah, I knew SRAM had aquired F&S, but I didn't realize this hub was based on an existing design. Now what are the odds they'll revive the Duomatic (especially at the old 112mm spacing)? :) One more question - can anyone tell me what the chainline measures on this hub? I'm thinking of using...

Looking for saddle recommendations for a touring cruiser

It's interesting that you bring up drop bars; that was another problem I ran into - but not until very late in the game. With about 10 miles left in our ride my wrists really started to cramp up (on account of supporting a lot of my body weight in one position for such a long time). Cruiser...

Looking for saddle recommendations for a touring cruiser

Thanks for all of the replies; that sit bone video was especially useful. After doing a bit of further research, I'm thinking two things: 1. A leather saddle sounds like the direction to go for me. 2. A cut-out saddle would probably be a good idea too (without getting into detail, let's...

    SRAM Automatix 2 speed hub.

I think my main reservation with this hub has just been it's longevity. I don't entirely know or understand the mechanism that controls the automatic shifting on the Automatix hubs (haven't seen or worked on one yet), but automated parts tend to have shorter lives/are less overhaulable than...

    Lets see your winter bike.

:D I'll try to post up some pics of my mine soon, but it sounds like your frame is very similar to mine. Admittedly, this frame will probably not end up being my be-all end-all winter bike frame (I'm waiting for a nicer 80's MTB frame like a Panasonic or Peugot to turn up in my size), but it...

:D Yeah, there's definetely truth in that excerpt - my bed mattress is firm as a rock and I love it :)! Thanks for the link, I'll check it out.

Yeah, I think there's a lot to be said for "butt preparation". This ride was admittedly a pretty spur of the moment thing, so I think that even though we commute every day of the year, our posteriors' just were not ready for such a ride.

Looking for saddle recommendations for a touring cruiser

The maintenance aspect of Brooks saddles is admittedly one aspect that always seems to slip my mind. Was the underside of your saddle getting wet even with fenders on? I'll have to check next time I ride in the rain, but I'm pretty sure my fenders do a pretty good job shielding that area of my...
