Those dropouts are crazy, it looks like they were trying to make them the shape of Ontario, and botched it a bit. They're also nearly as big as Ontario.

I'm sure you'll be better off with the Dodge instead of the AMC in terms of reliability. I had a horribly ugly Dodge wagon of about the same age that absorbed all the abuse I could throw at it. It'll look better when you get the bike rack installed. :D

Avoid the temptation to improvise, 3-piece cranks are easy to damage if you don't have the right tool. Your LBS should be able to sell you the crank puller that cman mentioned for around $20.
